BACK
"I was a wide-eyed kid when I joined, and these guys were all bitter and shit."
"Do you know what its like when you're about to eat your nice roast beef sandwhich, and there's this guy going " Hey Mike, check me out!" and dancing on your table?" (on John's private table dance)
"What do an elephant and a bunch of grapes have in common?.....They both have trunks, well, except the grapes."
Johnny about Mike:
"Mike was the onlyt guy we heard," he says. "We played twenty songs the first time we rehearsed with him, and he played them exceptionally well. Then we talked to Mike for a while and he seemed like a nice guy. So Robby and I went inot the hallway and we said to each other, 'What do you think? You think we could take him in a fight?' And we were like, 'Yeah, I think we could take him. Okay, that's cool!' And that's how he wound up with the gig."
Johnny about Mike:
"He's the stable unit among all of us. Day in and day out, he's the most  consistent musically. He just doesnt have a bad day on the drums. It's bizarre, because its so rare that he does clam that when it happens, I almost crap my pants! It's like,'Jesus, what in the hell just happened?' I'll look at him and go,'What was that? you never screw up!'"
Mike about what HE listens too:
"I just listened to the new Darden Smith record, which is really good. He's a singer/songwriter from Austin. I also just listened to a band called the Weakerthans, a Canadian band. I just bought a whole bunch of records recently. I also bought the new Eminem record. I dont really like Eminem, but I think he's very clever, and I think he's really good at what he does. He's the only rap guy that still bothers to sing a chorus, and he pisses enough people off that he's worth listening to!
* Malinin dreams of someday running across the U.S. to raise money for the Rails to Trails Conservancy. In his grand scheme, he would be sponsored by Taco Bell adn Motel 6 using them for pit stops along the way.
