| GOO GOO DOLLS, Third Eye Blind, and Vanessa Carlton September 5, 2002 The Woodlands(Houston) TX Cynthia Mitchell Woods Pavilion Ok, so here we go - sorry if I forget some details, I was kinda whack that night- in Goo heaven. Also this is from my point of view - and I'm sure as hell not a music critic or a journalist. So....3EB and VC played before the Goos, but I dont feel like writing all that down. If your interested in a review of their performances, email me at [email protected] Johnny and Robby ran out playing "Big Machine"....man, they are great musicians. Sorry, but like I said, I was in Goo heaven, therefore, I cannot remember the set list. Before they played "Dizzy" Johnny told a story that led up to the songs title(Dizzy). He talked about how a guy from KISS(forgot which one he said) is his favorite rock star, and he did an impression of him talking on a phone(he had a really girly/gayish voice) and then proceeded acting like he was that guy. He said something about how "he" asked the girls backstage what they wanted to drink, and the the girls said tequila...so then John goes back to himself and says "Well, tequila is fine for all you good-looking ladies out there, but Johnny cant drink tequila...you know why? Because tequila makes Johnny DIZZY!!!!!!!!!!!!" and they started playing "Dizzy". Also, during one of Robby's songs, Johnny ran over to Robby's side of the stage(right) and grabbed someone's sign that said "Robby Rocks" and held it up for him while he was singing and did a sexy dance for him..hehe..its hard to explain.....They also played all their hits of course, like "Iris" which was complete with a disco ball, and "Slide" which the ENTIRE audience sang along to, as well as "Black Balloon" and Broadway". The crowd's favorite seemed to be their first hit, from 1995, the power ballad "Name". I must say, it has to be one of my favorites as well. Many people held up lighters for the occasion. The only sad thing is that not many people knew their older songs (I of course, knew the words to EVERY song they played - and was singing along), like "Lucky Star"(sung by Robby Takac, from SSCW) and "Long Way Down" and "Naked" (both sung by Rzeznik, from ABNG). I think that the only songs Takac sang by himself were "Lucky Star", "Smash", "Tucked Away" and "January Friend". They closed the show with "American Girl", a Tom Petty song. Mostly what I do remember from the Goo concert is that I had a great time listening to the guys. And even though I didnt get to meet them, I did get a smile and a wave from Johhny, which is good enough until my next GGD concert. If you ever have a chance to go to a GGD concert, do it, I promise you wont regret it. |
