My GOO Story Well my name is Roxanne, as you probably already found out on the first page, I'm 19 and I'm from Philadelphia. I totallly love Goo, not just Johnny, the whole band! Everyone thinks I'm obsessed because I tape all of their TV appearances and I collect all of the magazine articles. I think I'm just a dedicated fan of an awesome band. I have recently graduated from Masterman HS and started college at Temple University in Phila, majoring in Communications. I am still aspiring to become a radio dj... hopefully having the first ever all Goo program on the air.. lol. I work p/t as a grocery store cashier and yes I ask "paper or plastic..." lol (had to get that in for Doodle) I don't really have any other info to tell ya about me except why I like Goo and all that, so... I like Goo because their music is just awesome, for lack of a better word, they sound great and they are really nice guys. The first song that attracted me to Goo was "We Are The Normal" but I wasn't like totally hooked on them like I am now. Then when "Name" came out in '95 I got hooked, I wanted to go to their concert but I was really sick when they were in Philly. Then they kinda drifted outta my mind but then Iris hit the airwaves and I was totaly hooked again, I was the first person in Philly to get Dizzy Up The Girl, well at least I was the first to get it at HMV Records. The day I heard they were coming to Philly I ran to ticketmaster and grabbed two tickets. I was so psyched about the concert that it was all my friends heard about for a month and a half. Well finally November 6 rolled around, the day of the concert and I was gettting really crazy, I was trying to think of ways to meet them, like going to South Street, a popular hangout here, and look for them cause I know Johnny loves it there but I couldn't get out of school so I had to wait till the concert and this is where my story comes into play... I was on my way homw from school to get ready for the concert and I had my walkman on and I heard the DJ on MAX 95.7 say "if you're gonna be checking out the the Goo Goo Dolls tonite show MAX your Max and you could win backstage passes to meet the band." So of course being a Goo nut I ran home got a shower and grabbed a sharpie and started writting on my belly(where else could I write?). I wrote MAX real big above my belly button and on the sides I wrote Goo Goo Dolls and Johnny along the top. My friend and I got to the show rather late so I ran right to the radio station and showed the DJ's my artwork, they were rather impressed and told me to stop back at 8:15. So for the next 15 minutes I joined the crowd and watched the cartoons on the screens in the forum. At 8:15 I went back and the Promos Director said "ok follow me we're going back." At that point I was so excited and shocked and nervous I didn't know what to do and I just started jumping up and down and flipping out. When we got backstage they stuck us in this tiny room with all the radio station management and thier families and a few other fans and finally after like 15 minutes Robby came flying in the room and screaming something and then Mike came in but I couldn't find Johnny so I turned around and he was standing right behind me!!!! I was so happy I almost started crying but I held that in until Johnny gave me a hug and a kiss. But before all that I met Robby and showed him my nails which read, Mike, Robby, GGD, Johnny, and I love Goo and I met Mike who was a sweetheart he gave me a hug and told me to calm down and just relax. I got an autograph from Johnny after they took some pics and Johnny was shocked at what I wrote on my belly and he started rubbing it saying "wow thats neat" and he played with my belly ring and asked if it hurt and i told him it didn't. He made them take a few pics of me and him and then the security kinda forced us all out even though the guys wanted the fans to stay, at least thats what they said. So I went backout to the forum and pushed my way up to the front while Anthenium finished up their set and they started the set change for Goo, I wound up right in the front row in front of Johnny. Ok here's the playlist from the show... Dizzy, Long Way Down, Lazy Eye, Slide, Black Balloon, Bullet Proof, Naked, Name, January Friend, Fallin' Down, Full Forever, Broadway, Another Second Time Around, Flat Top, Iris, There You Are, Burnin Up, Hate This Place, and they wrapped up with Two Days in Feb.There is now another encounter which you can read about at http://www.boyleworks.com/fabfay/goo/gooencounters67roxanne.html my pics are also on Fay's site. |
