My Experience At SASC SI BERKELEY
when mike first told me about sasc...i was koo, okay i'll apply for it. so mike gave me the application and i filled it out and wrote a little essay and returned it to him. then about a few days later, someone called me on the phone for my interview. it wasn't all that good. so den few days later, mike called me up and told me that i was one of the alternates because i didn't do so good on the interview (i learned my lesson, next time i'll give my full attention to the interview) but anyway, i recieved a letter saying that i got in. i was scared and happy at the same time. i was scared because i wouldnt know anyone there and i didnt want to look all lonely on the first time. but i was happy because i get to experience something i never did before. i was gonna try something new and actually meet people all around california. anyway, i found out that stephanie and san k was attending that program too so we decided to go together. when we first got there, it was weird because there was so many new faces. i was lucky i had steph and san k with me. but yeah time went by and i started to talk to people and asking where was they from. it was cool, i met hmong people! first time in my life, i always see "hmong" on the applications and stuff but i never met n e one until this program. next thing, we moved in. i had the coolest room mate ever! me and mainhia would stay up talking and talking until we get tired. days went by and i met almost everybody from mentors to mentees. they're all cool. i bonded and got along with everybody. the food was good too. haha at times yeah it was. overall, the program was great, i got to learn about southeast asian history and meet a lot of wonderful people. the last day of the program was sad. we all knew that we had to leave each other because the program was ending. we all gave our final thoughts..said good-bye and wished for everyone to keep in touch. i loved everybody and i miss them so much...
