How to Spruce Up an Ordinary Bulletin Board

finished bulletin board

I got lucky and found this bulletin board with dark cork and a dark brown frame. But you can easily paint the frame of an ordinary bulletin board. And if the cork is too light for your taste, cut a piece of black fabric just bigger than the cork area, turn the edges under and use your staple gun to fasten the fabric. Alternatively, you can cut the fabric larger than the whole board and pull the fabric behind and staple gun it to the back of the frame. When the fabric gets worn or you grow weary of it, just remove and start over. Add some dried roses or other flowers to the top. Hang something interesting to the side like an apple doll or kitchen witch. And suddenly, your average bulletin board is not so ordinary. Even a simple daily task like keeping notes and reminder cards can be Gothic!
