Step 1- Make the pattern:

Using Gift Wrapping Tissue, cut a rectangle 7 x 10" (this includes 1/2 seam allowance.) I use the kind that's a little waxy so the pattern lasts longer. But regular white tissue works just as well.

Step 2-

Cut the fabric from the pattern. Since this project is so quick, I like to cut at least two at a time.

Step 3-

Fold the 7" side of the fabric in half, right sides together. Press.

Step 4-

Sew 1/2" seam all the way around, leaving 1 1/2" opening for filling. (Typically this will be the second guide line on your sewing machine. See the reference section for further instruction.)

Step 5-

Clip corners and trim close to the seams, leaving a little extra at the opening.

Step 6-

Turn the fabric right side out and press.

Step 7-

Pour the rice and lavender mixture into a small pitcher and mix. Add the lavender until the smell is as strong or weak as you like it.

Step 8-

Using a funnel, pour the mixture into the pouch. If you need help steadying, you can use painter's tape to hold the funnel to the opening. Any tape will work, but painter's tape will not leave behind any goo. Don't overfill! You want there to be just enough rice that it will mold around the face.

Step 9-

Push the extra opening fabric into the pouch until it is even with the seam. Hand stitch closed.

Step 10-

Place in the refrigerator or freezer depending on your preference.
