Make your own
Sunglasses Case
|
 |
These are fast and easy to make and all I needed were scraps. You may
recognize the lace one as a scrap from my binder cover!
Materials:
Scraps of fabric for the outside
Scraps of satin for the inside
Scraps of batting
Ribbon
First make the pattern. One rectangle 8" x 4.5" is all you
need. Cut 2 ea. of the two fabrics. Fold the long side of the pattern
down one inch and cut two pieces of batting. Press all pieces. Fold the
satin towards wrong side one inch and press again. Insert the batting
under the fold, matching edges and hem across the top.
 |
Next fold in the sides of the outside fabric just enough to stitch
one inch at the top. This is to provide a clean edge for the ribbon
opening.
Pin this sandwich: satin/batting combo satin side up, outside fabric
right side down, other piece right side up, and second satin/batting
combo satin side down. Hem across the bottom. Unpin.
|
 |
On each side of this long piece, fold under slightly
the top of the outside fabric and then fold down to meet the hem you
made when attaching the batting to the satin. Stitch along the same
line to make the ribbon casing for each side. |
Fold in the middle so the satin is on the outside. Hem the sides. Clip
the corners and cut close to the stitching. Turn right side out and press.
Cut the ribbon into 2 pieces. As you can see in the picture, I made on
with long ribbon pulls and one with the ribbon just outside the case.
It's up to you how long you want the ribbon.
 |
Take the first ribbon and attach a safety pin. Run it
through one side's casing and back through the other. Double knot
the ribbon. Do the same with the second ribbon except run it through
the opposite side to start. This way, when you pull both knots on
opposite sides, it gathers the bag shut. That's all there is to it! |
