Avon walk for breast cancer logo Fighting Breast and other types of Cancer has been a big mission of my family's for quite a few years now. One of the ways we can help find a cure is by participating in what was previously known as The Avon 3-Day Walk for Breast Cancer. This annual event raises huge amounts of money nationwide for breast cancer research. Last year's preliminary totals are $67,5000,000 raised by over 48,000 walkers!

Because Palotta, the company that put their walks together, went bankrupt last year, Avon will be running the walks themselves with a slightly different format. Previously, it would start, for example, in Santa Clara county and the walkers would end up in San Francisco near the Golden Gate Bridge. This would happen over a period of three days with camp-overs at night.

The way I understand it to be this year is the walkers will begin and end in the same location over a period of one night. They will have the same camping experience, but there will be less mileage to cover. Also, walkers now have the option of only walking one day. The total mileage is a marathon length and a half. So, you can either walk the marathon on Saturday, or go the extra half on Sunday as well.

These are amazing women walking these fundraisers and each and everyone of them should be praised. I'm very proud of my mother (left) who will be attending her fourth, walking her third, this year!

Aside from the walk, they also have an entire organization, the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, dedicated to raising money and awareness in the US and forty-five other countries. They exist to support breast cancer medical research, clinical care, support services, education and early detection programs.

lipstick choices Starting last September, Avon is running a new campaign called "Kiss Good-bye to Breast Cancer" featuring Brilliant Moisture Lipcolor. "24-hour moisture, seventh-heaven shine" is what they boast and they have six colors to choose from. No, Black is not included, but a couple of the colors like, "Brave Brocade" is a nice dark, rich color. And the lipsticks are only $4 each. Proceeds go to to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade to fund medical research, clinical care, support services, early detection and education programs. And you will receive with your lipstick a free Breast Health Resource Guide. Shop online at Avon.com.

They also have a few other items for sale under the category "Pink Ribbon Products". Or, if you don't want to buy anything and can't get involved in such a big product, you can make a donation online, or to donate by mail, please send your check made payable to: Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, and write in the memo line: Internet Donations, to: Avon Foundation, 1345 Avenue of the Americas New York, NY 10105

Visit the worldmap for a list of the participating countries.
