So as you can see, this is just a demonstration of the lace curtains. I haven't gotten around to making tie backs yet. Just a jar of sea salt holding the curtain back to let the breeze in. Materials: 12 yds black lace (see below because the length will vary) I found these yard strips of lace on clearance. They are a narrow width, so I had two sew two together to make each curtain. If you get a wide width lace, you may only need 6 yards. Basically, you want to measure from the curtain rod to how close to the floor you want the curtain to hang. Multiply that times two for wide width, four for narrow. If you are using the wide width of lace, skip ahead to the next step after sewing two panels together. For narrow width lace, after cutting four strips to the desired length, pin two panels, right sides together. Sew a 1/4" seam. Trim to the stitching and iron the seam open. Repeat this with the second two panels. Now, with either width, you have two curtains to do the finishing steps on. With each curtain, iron in the side 1/4" and then press it in again 1/4" to 1/2", your preference. Stitch this down and repeat on the other side. Decide which end is the top of each curtain, and press this end back 1/4" and then 2-3" to create the curtain rod casing. Stitch across close to the folded edge. Finally, you want to hem the bottoms of each curtain. Press over 5/8" and tuck under. Stitch and hang up your new, very gothic, lace curtains.
