What's in a name?
I've often wondered to myself, why Dixie?  Why did my Mommy pick out that name?  I've asked her several times, and this seems to be the answer I get....
Mommy was inspired to get a Mini Dachshund from the very first dog she ever knew, Heidi. (you can see Heidi here.)  She knew she couldn't name me Heidi, but she wanted something similar, something with that "E" sound at the end of it...
Heidi's Mommy, Linda, often called her "Dolly Dachshund." My mommy thought the two "D's" togehter was very cute, but decided I didn't have a "Dolly" face.
Both Heidi and My Mommy's roots are in the south.  The south being what it is, even though I'm a pure Yankee pup, Mommy still wanted something to "remember the south."  Thus, the famous tune of "Dixie," which was adopted by confederate soldiers during the Civil War, seemed an appropriate choice.  For more info on the Dixie song go here.
Mommy finally decided to get a mini Dachshund while grocery shopping one day.  After talking with Daddy and weighing out all options, financial, time commitment, etc, it was a green light.  The word "yes" was uttered as Mommy's eyes skimmed over the plastic and paper plates and cups.  She saw the normal sized ones..and then there seemed to be little ones..."Mini" ones....  for those things go here. Durable, affordable and able to bring a smile to anyone's face.  It just seemed to fit.
One of Mommy's favorite music groups is the Dixie Chicks.  For info on them go here. Mommy likes them becaus ethey symbolize freedom, independance, stubborn behavor, and all around girl power!  What better things for a puppy to be?
When Mommy first started talking about getting a dog, Grandaddy didn't believe her.  After she talked about it again and again, and then finally told him she had found my breeder, he said "You really are determined to get a Dachshund aren't you?"  My Mommy's reply: "You aren't just whistling Dixie!!!"
There are a few more reasons that Mommy and Daddy have come up with now as to why I have the name I do.  Some of them are cute, some are stupid, and some are both.  My favorite after-the-fact reason is that Dixie rhymes with Pixie.  And not only am I Daddy's little sprite, I also have the high energy of a sugar high, as if I had eaten to many Pixie Stix....
