BEDTIME STORY
by Cheyenne Autumn and Silvermyst

THE ALLEY CAT

Once upon a time there were two little kitties who decided
to run away from home....
They thought home was too BORING!

When mummy went off to hunt, they sneaked away and soon
they were running along in the alley behind their house.
Suddenly there appeared before them, a HUGE alley cat and he
growled fiercely.....MMMMEEEEEOOOOOOOWWWW!
"Ah ha," he said,"two little morsels for me to torment and
maybe dispose of!" Then he put his big paw on their tails so
they could not run away.

He was so scraggly and he looked so hungry and one of the kittens
said, "Please don't eat us, big kitty. We should not have left
our wonderful home!

"No, you shouldn't!" he said, "I do not have a home. I get very
hungry and lonely. In winter, I am cold. In summer, it is so
hot. Fleas torment me all the time! You were lucky kitties!"

The kitties had an idea!

"Follow us, big kitty" they said, "and we will show you our home! There is food there!"

The cat hesitated, "NO! The humans will catch me and send me
away to that place where cats go and do not come back!"

"Not our Meowmie", said the kitties, "she will feed you. Please
come with us and you will see!"

He raised his big paw from their tails and they scampered
away home! He followed...slowly. He was SO hungry!

The kitties leaped upon their fence and over into their safe
yard, so thankful to be home again. Mummy was still away so
she would not know they had been bad.

The alley cat jumped upon the fence and looked things over.
He saw a food dish with yummmy food on the patio and fresh
water. It was too tempting...he leaped down and into the
yard and went to eat and drink!

The kitties watched from the other side of the patio and knew
that soon the big alley cat would be visiting each day, then
Meowmie would become his friend and soon he would have a home!

He left them when he was full but he did return each day
and in time he joined the family. He went to the vet and
his fleas were gone and he became fat and healthy. He was
sad when the kitties grew up and went away to new loving
homes and he was always glad he met them in that alley.

So...kitties! You should always do what your Mommy says when you
are small and not wander off. Not only are there cats who might
harm you but there are lots of other predators and you do not
know how to stay out of the path of those things people call
CARS!
