In October 1924, a group of men assembled by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley met in the basement of the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, U.S.A., The group took the name "Toastmasters".  Since then, Toastmasters has grown into a Worldwide Organization consisting of more than 10,500 Clubs and over 211,000 members.  Division A consists of 7 Areas and 33 Clubs.

In the book "The Leadership Challenge" (Third Edition) by James M. Kouzes and Barry Z. Posner, Alan Keith said:  “Leadership is ultimately about creating a way for people to contribute to making something extraordinary happen”.  My vision as Division “A” Governor is to apply Keith's principle. I pledge to lead by example and fully support those who have the desire to succeed as Toastmasters, as members of their communities, and as leaders.
