| Keontay S. Vaughn was born in Westchester, New York in 1983, the first born of Reginald Vaughn and Cynthia Dessaure. During her formative years, Keontay fell in love with the art of writing and participated in any extracurricular activity that involved her new found love. At the tender age of eight, Keontay wrote her first short story. In 1994, after her parents separated, Keontay, her mother and her little brother relocated to Virginia Beach, Virginia. For the year that they resided in Virginia, Keontay passed the days by writing poetry and short fictional stories. In 1996, Cynthia received a job opportunity in the city of Atlanta, Georgia and the threesome relocated once again. During her residency in the city of Atlanta, Keontay attended seveal high schools before becoming a freshman at Ronald E. McNair High School, formerly Walker High School. For the duration of her high school education, Keontay continued with her writing and even began writing poetry. As a sophomore, Keontay joined the high school newspaper staff and quickly became the poetry editor of Ronald E. McNair's school newspaper, The Challenger. In June of 2001, Keontay graduated as a H.O.P.E. Scholarship recipient with a grade point average of 3.5. Keontay began her studies at the HBCU, Morris Brown College in Atlanta, GA in the Fall of 2001 and earned an Associates of Psychology from Georgia Perimeter College in 2005. Keontay began her journey as a journalist nearly a decade ago, and in the Spring of 2007, her first literary work will be published. Today you can find many of her poems via the internet at www.poetry.com. When asked at what age she knew she loved writing more than anything, she responded, "I have always know that I enjoyed writing, but it wasn't until I realized that through every emotion that I faced, writing was my peace. Once I realized that, I knew I had found my true calling." |
