DIVA DOGS:  Aggression
Aggression is the number one reason dogs are given up, surrendered to animal shelters, or euthanized.  There are a variety of different types of aggression that haunts dog owners.  Resource guarding (possesson aggression), barking/lunging/snapping at other dogs (dog aggression), and dominance related aggression within the home are the most common.  Other forms of aggression are territorial, towards strangers or children, or towards other animals (not dogs).
Correction or behavior modification techniques differ depending on the level of severity that your dog aggresses at.  Because each dog is different, it is important to judge the best possible ways to modify or correct the aggression.  Aggression can be very harmful if not dealt with in the proper way.  If you are encountering any forms of aggression please do not try to "go it alone" and get professional help.  I use varying methods depending on the dog and the level of severity.  Some dogs just need a few leash and collar corrections while others are completely hands-off and require clicker work for shaping new behaviors.

There are several rules to prevent and correct aggressive dogs:
1.  Always be the winner
2.  Correct ALL signs of aggression
3.  Correct & Praise appropriately
4.  Teach obedience and teach humanely
5.  Let the dog earn his freedom
6.  Use the "Down" to your advantage
7.  Limit rough-housing and wildness

PLEASE CONSULT A PROFESSIONAL IF YOU ARE HAVING ANY AGGRESSION ISSUES WITH YOUR DOG.
