The Obadabi obadabi
The Obadabi are a race of forest people well hidden from the eyes of the world. The exist exclusively in the Great Northern Wilderness, deep within the inner confines of the ancient trees. A nocturnal race these creatures are completely hidden to most all creatures, there is not even a recollection of them in the myths of the world. They have developed through time to maintain there hiddeness as observers and gentle folk of the shadows. Making the trees their homes the creatures never venture out into the world beyond their realm and never are out during daylight. Instead they only come out in the still darkness of the night to gather their food of fruit and vegetables and to gaze upon the beautiful night sky. They are the holders of the night sky, so they call themselves, claiming their ancestors created the stars to shine down on the world in the darkness of chaos. The Obadabi were actually a dominant race before the great war with the Old Ones in which they were targeted and slaughtered because of the their skills as great warriors and magicks. Their great race stood on the front lines against these evil ones and were the key component in sealing the Old Ones fate. Though upon the ending of the wars they were almost entirely decimated so the few left vowed to never again lift a hand against another and vanished into the trees. They kept a record of all the things thus transpired and continue to do so, so that someday the other races of the world might know. Having still great knowledge in all areas of study the Obadabi hold many of the secret arts of magic. They are the lone holders of true rune magic, though the secrets are guarded forever within the Obadabi. Though their knowledge is great in many areas they still are cut off from the world beyond and so are limited in their knowledge of the outside world. Living in the trees and underground the Obadabi have a deep bond with their natural surroundings making all creatures of the natural world their friends. This communal lifestyle with the gentle harmonious give and take though keeps the race small also gives them great protection from any foe. Their homes are impossible to find, the trees and vegetation hides them beneath the natural barriers. The amazing bonds they have with nature show in their ability to alter the environment entirely though completely non-forcefully, it is a gentle give and take of asking and receiving. Appearing like beautiful tall humanoids with gently glowing eyes and dark skin and hair they make no sound when walking and seem to glide along the earth. Simple and care free, the Obadabi live humbly in the forest. Though they are amazing scholars and magicks, they never pursue these skills beyond understanding their place in the world and will never use them to harm, destroy, or manipulate anything. They dream of the day though when the races of the world will gain this peace and then they will join them again bringing the gifts they have to offer. So the Obadabi wait in their tranquillity until the time comes again, though their numbers continually grow fewer as their days in the world draw to an end.
Knosis Character Sketch
Knosis, a gnome, found as a lad deep in the forest of the Great Northern Wilderness by the Obadabi and taken in by them. He was left by his mother deep within a glen because of the marauding clan of gobblelys that had destroyed their village, one the last hidden villages in the area. From then on he was raised by the Obadabi within the protective environment and trained in their ways of knowledge though they knew he was destined for other realms. When he was first brought into the tribe of the Obadabi were concerned about his place among them, but they soon realized his path would be a different one, leading into the outside world. The Elders could see that this new bond with the outside world was an important process in the hope of one day uniting with the other races. So Knosis grew together with the Obadabi learning their ways in the world and their understandings of the world about them. He soon came to realize how different he was from his tall comrades though and could catch a glimpse of what the future path was before him. He studied the mystic arts, languages, and a variety of other skills gaining the insights into the world the Obadabi have to offer. With each passing season the Elders and Knosis could feel that the time was drawing closer when he would venture out into the world to discover the beyond and become apart of it. And finally the day came with the stars shining bright above Knosis was given his last embraces and gifts for his journeys. The Obadabi gave him a companion animal to be both his guide and friend in this new phase of his destiny. Ever loyal and bonded to him this animal will never leave his side, and they can communicate through simple empathy.
Upon leaving his home Knosis may never return though, and can never find his way back there, for the place is sealed in the protection of nature and magic that not he nor anyone else can break. Also all the skills he learned dealing with commune with nature, although making him very aware of the world around him, the outside is dead of the strong communal bonds created in the Obadabi environment, so he is left to suddenly feel the shock of a cold hard world compared to the warmth of the one he once knew. Slipping into a deep slumber he awakes the next morning in a foreign land, cold, almost painful, but intriguing beyond all imagination, and somehow pleasant beneath all that gloom. In this quest he now undertakes becoming apart of the world he knows he is apart of, but somehow distant from, he hopes to gather insights of this world and share with others the warmth he has known. Slightly naive, but intelligent and wise Knosis feels his way around this environment of old, calling on the last bond that remains to him, his companion they head off into the world to seek the secrets and wonders the world has to offer and to thus exchange his own gifts. Though evils await beyond belief there is still the ability to give to others and shape a new world.
