Chapter 1
"Life sucks," Sara whined sitting down in her home ec. class next to her best friend Dani.

"What did Josh do now?" Dani asked opening her notebook to the asiignment due.

"He's breathing," Sara fumed slamming open her notebook to start the assignment that was due.

"Wow, you haven't been this mad since he recited that poem on the morning announcements about how much he loved you," Dani said which earned her a glare. "So, what'd little white-ass wipped boy do now?"

"He made me breakfast this morning," Sara said.

"That doesn't sound to bad,' Dani said confused. Josh had certainly done worse things.

"In bed," Sara finsihed. Dani opened her eye all the way. "Yeah, I wake up and he's sitting on the side of my bed, petting my hair like I'm some kind of pet."

Dani burst out laughing. "That boy so wants you back. I'd tell you to give him another chance but I think he's reached border line stalker status."

Sara nodded her head in agreement. "Yeah, well, I wish he would move on. It's been two months."

Dani was about to respond when Mrs. Krux, their home ec. teacher, closed the classroom door and began class.

"Please hand up the assignment from yesterday," she said.

Sara rolled her eyes. Another assignment behind. She hated these asiignments, ones that asked about your future and wanted you to plan it out. For a teenage girl who had no idea about her future, these assignments didn't come easy.

"Now, for your newest assignment. It will involve partners,' she added. Sara smiled as she turne to face Dani. Working with her would definitely get her an A. "Male and female partners." The whole class groaned. "We are actually starting out marrige study part of the class and you'll be "married" to your pre-assigned spouse for the duration of two weeks."

"But Mrs. Krux," Matt, the class idiot said, "what if we aren't planning on marrige in our future."

"Plans change," Mrs. Krux said. "Please note, this assignment is half your grade. So take it seriously and don't slack off. There are wo parts to this assignment. The first part, you'll keep a journal about your marrige, so write freely. The second part isn't quite so simple. You will be given a packet ccontaining the information of your lifee. How many kids you have, what your jobs are and a list of things that have to be done each day."She paused and gave the class a small smile. "It won't be easy, you will learn about compromising and patience. I hope you learn more from this one assignment then anything else in this class."

She then pulled out a list that she had made prior to class and began reading off there were lots of groans and some grumbling but nobody was more upset than Sara when Mrs. Krux called off her partner.

"Sara Grosfield and Brian Littrell."

Brian Littrell was everything Sara had learned to hate. The jock who was so full of himself that he didn't care who he hurt. He had the flawless good looks that nobody could resist, and he knew it. With his perfect smile, blue eyes and blonde hair, he was most girl's dream but definitely not Saras. She hated jocks.

And now she had to spend the next two weeks working one on one with one. There was no justice in this world.

Brian ignored the slaps on his back and stared at the back of his newest partner. Of course, on the laready horrible day he was having, he would get put with one of the snobbiest, richest girls in school.

Sara Grosfield, with her perfect blonde hair, blue eyes and perfect clothes had a lot going for her. If only she wasn't such a bitch. She rarely dated, only had a couple freinds and snapped at any one who came in a two foot radius of her. She was, in one sentence, a spoiled, pampered, princess bitch.

"Well, didn't Bri luck out, the pampered princess for a partner," his friend Riley teased.

"Shut up," Brian muttered. "This is just great, I'm already failing Algebra and now this assignment. I doubt I'll be playing at Friday's game now for sure."

"Hire a tutor," Riley suggested winking at his partner, a quiet girl named Megan.

"Yeah right, I'm never going to understand this crap," Brian motioned towards his algebra book he'd brought with hoping to get a couple minutes to study.

"Well, I don't know what to tell you," Riley said. "We need you but...I don't know what to tell you."

"Please join your partners now, so I can hand out your packets," Mrs. Krux said watcing her class switch desks and move around brought a smile to her face. She tired to make couples out of people who'd never talked and didn't have a lot in common.

Brian waited for what seemed like minutes but Sara was not mobing from her desk. Finally he stood up and made his way over to her. He sat in the desk that use to be occupied by her "friend."

"Hey," he said when Sara didn't look in his direction.

"Okay, I'm going to hand yout packets and please remember, you decide on the answers to each problem together," Mrs. Krux said.

She handed their packet to Sara who began reading it and didn't even bother to try and include Brian.

"You're a pilot," Sara said suprising him.

"I'm a what," Brian said curiously.

"A pilot, ya know, you drive airplanes," Sara said sarcastically.

"I know what a pilot is, I was just so suprised that you actually spoke to me," Brian said standing up and moving the desk next to hers. "Now lets read over this together."

Sara didn't look happy but held the packet so he could read it at the same time. "I'm a daycare provider."

Brian hid a smile behind his hand. She was definitely not please about that one. "Ya know, you'd make a cute daycare provider."

Sara glared at him. "Shut up," she said before reading the rest out loud.

"We have a daugher, she's three. We have to name her," Sara said looking at him.

"Do you want to pick out a name?" Brian asked.

"Together Mr. Littrell, choose a name together," Mrs. Krux said from behind them.

Sara smiled. "What do you think of the name Shelby?"

"Sounds good to me," Brian said.

"Now our first problem to slove is," Sara read, "I got into a car accident and we have to pay for the damage. Now do we pay for it from out vacation saving account or from our daughter's college fund."

"Easy, the college fund," Brian said. "Problem solved."

"Uh...no, the vacation fund," Sara said. "We can't take money out of our daughter's college fund."

"She's only three," Brian said confused.

The bell rang then. "How are we going to do this?"

"I'll come over after practice and we can argue some more," Brian said standing up.

"Do you know=" Sara started but Brian interrupted her.

"Everybody knows where the pampered princess lives," Brian said before he walked out, he didn't see the look of hurt in Sara's eyes.

"Brian littrell, I can see, we're not a luvin," Dani said coming up from behind her.

"He called me the pampered princess, is that really how people see me?" Sara asked looking like she was about to cry.

"Probably, but that's only the people who don't know you," Dani said. In her head she asdded; which is most people. Sara didn't let people get close to her. It was probably a dense mechanism.

Sara slowly made her way out of hte classroom. Brian had probably assumed he was making an innocent comment but he had actually hurt her feelings. But it wasn't the first time a guy had done that.

*****

Brian waved goodbye to some of his friends as he headed out to his jeep. Everybody on the Basketball team now knew Sara was his "wife" and were taking bets on how soon Sara would put him in his place. Being the little rich girl, the bets were definitely short term.

As he started his car, P.O.D. "Youth of the Nation" blared from his cd player. It was a very long drive from Carlington High School to Sara's house. She lived way out in the country, in a huge house some could say, a Mansion.

Brian whistled as he drove up the driveway. Talk about easy living, Sara probably hadn't wanted for anything in her life.

It was a long walk from his car to the front door and he had to wait almost two minutes for someone to open the door.

"Hello," Sara said softly, holding the door open for him.

Brian was suprised to see her looking almost human. In sweats and a sweatshirt she could have been a normal teenage girl. But then he looked around and remembered where this so-called "normal girl" grew up.

"I can take your packet and you can move into the dining room," Sara said holding up her hand out for his lettermans jacket.

"UH...where is that?" Brian asked politely but he added a little sarcasm to his tone.

Sara blushed. She always forgot when new guests arrived that they didn't know where everything is. "Straight down this hallway and to your right."

Brian made his way down the hall way but stopped every once in awhile. There were pictures of Sara everywhere. From when she was a baby to about a three or four year old. She was ice skating in one, doing a cartwheel in another and making a silly face in another. You couldn't tell from these pictures that she'd grown in to, well, a bitch.

Sara had caught up to him by then and touched his arm lightly. She pulled her arm away quickly when she felt the jolt shoot up her arm. From the look on Brian's face you could tell he had felt the same thing.

Sara led the way to the dining room and Brian was a bit more prepared for this room. There was a long table that could seat about twelve people and a huge chandelier above the middle. There was a huge fire place at the one end and a door at the other. This room was decorated with watercolors and the frames probably cost more than one of his paychecks from McDonalds.

"You can sit there," Sara said pointing to one of the chairs where the table was set. "Fose didn't know what time you were arriving so she set a place just in case. You don't have to eat."

Brian's stomache cose that moment to growl and he saw Sara quickly turn to hide a smile.

"Or you can eat," Sara said moving to sit down.

Brian sat down and looked up in suprise as the door to the kitchen and a lady walked out carrying two plates full of food. Brian licked his lips when the aroma of garlic bread and speghetti washed over him.

"It smells great," Brian said enthusiastically. Then folded his hands and began to pray out loud.

"Dear God, I'd like to thank you for his meal and for all things you've blessed me with today. Amen." He finished and opened to find Sara staring at him curiously.

"Do...do you always pray like that?" Sara asked sounding unsure.

"Yeah," Brian said taking a huge bite. When Sara didn't even pick up her fork he swallowed quickly. "Let me guess, you don't."

Sara looked down at the table. "My dad doesn't believe in God."

Brian hadn't expected that. Having grown up in a house with deep Christiean values, meeting someone who's dad didn't believe, well, was definitely new.

"Oh," Brian said this time he sounded unsure.

Sara sighed but then picked up her fork to eat. Brian had expected her to eat half but was suprised when she ate her whole plate. For such a tiny girl, she sure ate a whole lot.

Wen Rose came to taker plate Sara stopped her. "You go home now Rose. I can do the dishes. Roger's probably going insane waiting for his dinner. If you want, you can take the leftovers for him."

"Sara, I'll leave after the dishes are done," Rose said giving her a smile. "Besides, you ahve all week to be alone, don't you want my company as long as you can get it."

Sara rolled her eyes. "Go home Rose." After a few more objections, Rose finally went home and Sara stood up and took all the dishes into the kitchen. Now she was officially alone with Brian, and she found herself oddly looking forward to it. Life was strange.
