Chapter 3

"Bye mom, I'll give you a call as soon as I reach Orlando," Dani said giving her a hug.

"We'll miss you honey," her dad said giving her a hug.

"I'll miss you guys too," Dani said near tears. With one last glance at her parents she got into the waiting cab at the end of her driveway.

"Tough leaving home, isn't it?" The Cabbie said as Dani let the tears finally fall.

"Yeah, it is," Dani said softly.

It had been great to come home. Her dad acted like she hadn't been gone for sixth months and her mom had immedietly picked up on the confusion that Dani had going on in her life.

Dani smiled as she remembered the conversation that had taken place her first night home. Her mom could put anything into perspective...

"Now we can talk," her mom said as Dani unpackedher suitcase.

"About what?" Dani said trying to sound like she had no idea what her mom could be talking about.

"How 'bout the boy I know you have feelings for and Sara. Last time we talked, you thought Sara was coming home with you. What changed?"

Dani was quiet for awhile but then she couldn't seem to keep quiet. Everything that had been going on just came out.

"Sara went home with Brian. My best friend went home with a guy she isn't even sure she should be with. Hell, I don't even know if we are best friends anymore. She won't talk to me, I don't think I could talk to her about me until I know." Dani paused. "She seems so wrapped up in her life and her problems but what about her friends. I don't understand her anymore."

Her mom smiled. "Dani, you've never totally understood Sara. Youonce told me that was why you enjoyed hanging out with her." Her mom sat down beside her. "Now, I dont' know why Sara is pushing you away, maybe it's because of the holiday. She might miss her family and be taking it out on her friends."

"But she talks to Kayla like she's her best friend. And now she has Brian too. I'm being put on the back burner and it hurts," Dani said her voicebeginning to tremble.

"I bet it does," she agreed. "Did you ask Sara why she has been acting so strange."

"Well...no," Dani said thoughtfully.

"Did you ever wonder if maybe Sara felt you were pulling away? Think back, the last time I talked to you, you talked about your friendship with Alex a lot," she pointed out.

"I guess I have been hanging out with Alex a lot lately, but I don't know, Alex and I just click, I can't explain it," Dani said softly.

"Well maybe you should try for Sara's and your's friendships sake," her mom said patting her knee. "Now, about the guy."

Dani groaned. "Mom, there isn't a guy. I mean, I wish there was but there's not."

"If there was, what would his name be,"she asked still pushing.

"Wade."Dani looked at her hands. "Wade Robinson."

"I knew there was a guy," Her mom said proudly.

Dani rolled hereyes. "I lik him mom, but he doesn't like me. I'm just a friend, well, part of his job also."

"Then he's not the guy for you," she said standing up. "Now, I'm going to leave you to your unpacking and go let your father know you're alright. Did you..."

Dani looked up in surprise when she realized they were in front of the airport. "thank you." She paid the cabbie and along with her luggage, made her way inside.

Their weren't any real long lines so she had her ticket and went to sit down b her terminal. She had a couple hours until she'd be back in Orlando. But for some reason, she felt no excitement. All she felt was dread.

*****

Sara looked up as the apartment door opened. She'd been in Orlando for an hour. Brian had dropped her off before he headed over to Nick's house.

Kayla walked in carrying her duffle and guitar case. "Hey girl@ Can you believe the vacation is already over?"

"It's not over yet, we still have 2 days.," Sara pointed out giving her a hug. "Did you enjo your visit with the parentals?"

"Yeah, it wasn't all hugs and bunnies but it was okay," Kayla said walking with Sara over to the couch. "I spent a lot of time with an old friend anyways."

"Who?"

Sara asked figuring it was Lisa or Annie.

"Dustin," Sara said confused, then it dwned on her. ""Dustin Puffe, the guy you adored for the longest time. Since when did you two hang out?"

Kayla sighed. "Since I'be became a singing sensation and my name is plastered everywhere."

"And that doesn't bother you in the least, that he is that shallow," Sara said shocked. She would be pissed.

"Yeah, well, I decided to go out with him for reasons that are still unknown to me. I just did," Kayla said giving Sara a half smile.

"Well, did ya have fun?" Sara asked curiously.

"We had a blast. Dustin is so the poster guy for normal. No security and no talk about me and my being a 'superstar'," Kayla said excited. "i know now why I liked him in high school. He's a great friend."

"What about A.J?" Sara asked after a moment of silence. "You two were getting all buddy buddy before you left."

Kayla stood up and began to pace. "See that's the thing. Dustin and I had a blast. I worried about AJ and what he would think and...and....feel. I almost feel guilty about it but I shouldn't because I didn't do anything wrong," she said sounding more like she was convincing herself rather than Sara.

"Then I think you have a problem on your hands," Sara said feeling bad for her friend.

"Yeah, I just wish I could see AJ and see what happens," Kayla said plopping down on the couch.

"Well, then I have good news, you'll see him tomorrow." Sara squeezed her shoulder and gave her a smile.

"Why?"

"Brian and I are throwing an imprompto party, a little 'Welcome Back Everybody," Sara said getting a dopey smile on her face.

"I'm going to take a wild guess nad say everythings going great between you and Brian," Kayla said smiling.

"Great, well, awesome would be a better word," Sara said chuckling. "I had a great time at his parents house and we just grew closer together." Sara sighed. "I miss him."

"Then go see him," Kayal suggested.

Sara smiled. Nah, she could wait impatiently for tomorrow to come. Besides, Brian might want a little break.
