"Don't let the darkness of the past cover the brightness of the future."
Sara glanced up from her notebook when she heard the knock on the door. It was Brian, she knew it.
“Coming,” she yelled rolling over but instead of her feet hitting the floor, she landed on her butt. “Ow.”
“Sara?” Brian asked through the door.
Sara groaned as she stood up. Her tail bone was killing her and now she was dizzy from standing up to fast. She took a couple seconds so the room would quit spinning.
Brian smiled as Sara opened the door. She was already in her pajamas. They were pink with little red hearts on the pants and matching tank top.
“Sorry it took me so long,” Sara said closing the door behind him.
“It’s okay,” Brian assured her. “I thought I heard you say ow. Did you say ow?”
Sara blushed. “Ah...yeah I did. I...kinda...sorta, well fell off the bed.”
Brian smiled. “You were in that much of a hurry to let me in. Oh, Sara, I never knew.” HE chuckled at the glare she shot him. “I’m just playin with ya.”
“I know.” She looked around the room. “Well, now ‘bout you see what’s on tv well I get us some water.” At Brian’s stare she hurried to explain. “I don’t drink pop before bed.”
“Okay,” Brian said turning on the TV.
There wasnt’ anything on regular TV, so he started looking at the paperview channels.
“Find anything?” Sara asked handing him his water.
“Nah, nothing yet,” Brian said looking up and giving her his little boy smile.
Sara felt it then. Her knees felt like they were jello. Seeing that smile, especially when it was directed at her, made her weak in the knees.
“Whoa,” Brian said grabbing her arm to steady her. “You okay?”
“Oh crap,” Sara said putting her free hand to her head. “Oh crap, why is this happening?”
Brian stood up. “Sara, what’s wrong?”
“You need to go,” she replied. She set her glass of water on the bedside table and began to push him towards the door.
“What...why?” Brian found himself on the other side of the door with out an answer to his question. He looked at the door one last time before he headed to the elevator.
Nick grinned at a very hyper Kristen. She was practically bouncing off the walls and nothing he said could calm her down.
“Don’t you think Dawson’s Creek is a good show? Besides having Joshua Jackson on the show, which, in my opinion, makes the show even better. I think it sends a positive message to teens,” Kristen said staring at the TV. Pacey and Joey were having another argument and she found it fascinating.
“Actually, I don’t like it all that much,” Nick said truthfully.
Kristen whirled around to face him. She glared and reached for a pillow. “Just for that, you get to die in a pillow fight.”
Nick laughed as she began to hit him with one of his pillows. He hadn’t had this much fun in a long time. Kristen was like this little kid most of the time. But she had her moments at being serious. Not often but sometimes.
“Hey! That’s enough,” Nick said taking the pillow from her.
Kristen smiled. “Then take back what you said about Dawson’s Creek. Everybody loves that show.”
“Well, not everybody,” Nick said putting the pillow back. He had his head turned so he didn’t see Kristen lunge at him. He was sitting so close to the end of the bed that they both hit the floor.
“Oh my God! I am so sorry!” Kristen exclaimed laying on top of him. “Are you hurt?”
“Just my head,” Nick mumbled opening and closing his eyes a couple times. “Nothing important.”
Kristen rolled her eyes. “It is so important. Come on, get up, I’ll bring you to the doctor.” Soon she lost her patience. “Get up!”
“I can’t!” Nick said laughing.
“Well, why not?” Kristen said confused.
“Cause you are laying on me,” Nick said putting his hands behind his head.
“Uh...sorry,” Kristen said blushing. “I’ll move.”
Nick stopped her with a quick shake of his head. “Please don’t. I have no desire to move.”
Kristen, as if pulled by a magnetic force, slowly leaned down ‘til their lips touched. he spark of sexual attraction shocked them both. They hadn’t expected it.
“Wow,” Kristen said after pulling away.
“I’ll second that,” Nick agreed softly. But rose so his lips met hers once again. The second kiss was better than the first. The first held the hint of innocence but the second lost all sense of innocence and passion took over.
They were both so wrapped up in each other they didn’t hear the door open.
Brian froze as soon as he saw his best friend laying on the floor with Kristen draped over him. “Um...pardon me for interrupting, I’ll be gone in a second.”
Kristen was off Nick and standing in 5 seconds flat. It took Nick another 5 seconds. “This isn’t what it looks like.”
Kristen visibly relaxed. “Oh yeah,” she said her face was red anyways.
“Yo, Brian man, I though you were hanging with Sara tonight?” Nick asked glaring at him.
“So did I,” Brian mumbled ignoring his glare. “I’ll be gone in a minute.”
“Why aren’t you with Sara?” Kristen asked stepping towards him. He looked so sad, like his dog had just died or something.
“She kicked me out!” Brian exclaimed falling down on his bed. He was staring at the ceiling so he didn’t se the concerned look pass between Nick and Kristen.
“Why?” Kristen prompted.
“I don’t know, one minute she’s staring at me well handing me my water and then it was like her knees gave out so I steadied her. All of a sudden she was telling me to go. I don’t understand her,” Brian sighed.
“Well man, maybe that’s the third strike,” Nick said shrugging his shoulders. “Maybe it’s time to move on. You obviously don’t belong together.”
“Don’t you dare,” Kristen said smiling. Brian and Nick stared at her. “Give her another chance. You won’t regret it.” Kristen shook her head. Sara couldn’t deny the proof anymore. She had gotten weak in the knees tonight. She had to face facts. Brian and her were meant for each other. Kristen would bet her life on it.
Kevin looked at Pat. “Is this what I think it means?” Not waiting for an answer he continued. “I can’t believe their song ‘Beautiful Goodbye’ has already made it to the number one spot.”
“Also, their album release date is next week. They are on TRL that day,” Pat said reviewing Carpe Diem’s schedule.
“Their album will probably go platinum I a couple weeks,” Kevin said smiling. “I knew it, the first time I heard them sing, that they had a uniqueness. That they had a special flavor.”
Pat chuckled. “Yeah well, I realized the same thing when there demo tape fell into my hands accidentally. She opened her briefcase and pulled out their CD.
The cover had a picture of them all sitting in various positions on a trampoline. In big letters it said “Seize the Day” and in smaller letters it said “Carpe Diem.”
“I don’t understand it. We haven’t done anything different. We promote them like any other band but they must have something special.”
Kevin nodded his head in agreement. “Well, whatever it is lets pray, they never lose it, whatever it is.”
“Another thing,” Pat said changing the subject. “Walt Disney Productions wants Carpe Diem to sing the main song for one of their new movies coming out. They might have to miss a date or maybe two, to record it.”
Kevin sighed. “I guess they can leave us for that long.” When Pat rolled her eyes he chuckled. “Nah, I don’t mind and the other guys wont’ either.”
“Great, well then, I’ll be leaving now. I should drop the schedules off for the girls to see them,” Pat said packing her briefcase up.
“No wait!” Kevin yelled. At Pat’s surprised glance he searched for an excuse. “Everyone went to bed early tonight. I’d wait ‘til the morning. They are bound to me cranky if you wake them now.”
Pat looked suspicious but finally nodded her head. “Okay but I don’t believe you for some reason.”
Kevin smiled happily, well actually more relieved. “I have no idea why that is.” As Pat left he groaned. He had just saved Carpe Diem a lecture from their manager. They didn’t know it yet, but they owed him.
