"Who are we meeting with?" Dani asked their manager Patricia.
"I didn't tell you yet but it's a suprise so I can't tell you," Patricia said making them groan. "I'm sorry guys but I truly can't tell you. They asked me to not say a word."
"Well, lets go find out who made us get up at seven a.m. for some retarded meeting," Kayla said standing up.
Sara smiled. "Be positive girls! So we had to get up a little early, maybe it's a blessing in disguise. What if it's somebody like...I dunno...but somebody cool."
"When did you become so optiomistic?" Kristen asked curiously.
"Since she talked to Scott for 3 hours the night before," Dani teased.
"OH, what'd you guys talk about?"
"When's the wedding?"
Questions like that kept coming but Sara just shoook her head. "There isn't a wedding date and never will be."
"You don't mean?" Kayla asked suprised.
"Yep, we broke up. He gave me the classic line, 'it's not you, it's me' and 'I hope we can still be friends," Sara said rolling her eyes. "But my philosophy is, if it was meant to be, I wouldn't have felt relieved when we broke up."
"God," Dani said shaking her head. "I thought you guys would marry. You always seemed so close and were so sweet to eachother in such a sickening way that I can't imagine you without him."
Patricia watched as the girls took turns giving Sara sympathy and encouraging words. She looked at her watch and sighed. They were going to be late for their meeting, and she hated being late for anything. "Okay girls, time to make our way upstairs to the board room. I promise you the meeting won't take a long time. So, lets go lazy people."
They all followed her over to the elevators and up to the 15th floor of Jive Records. Patricia gave them all a small smile before opening the door and leading the way into the room.
Sara almost died of shock when she saw who was sitting around the table. It was the Backstreet Boys! She had been absolutely obsessed back in high school with them. They had been her favorite band. She looked around and noticed the same reaction on her fellow bandmates faces.
"Please come in and sit down," Kevin said motioning to the other 5 chairs.
Dani found herself sitting across from A.J. who was wearing his "trademark" sunglasses and was giving her a smile. She found herself completely repelled by him. Any guy who was egotistical made her hate him on the spot.
"Now, you are probably wondering what we called you here for? Well, that would be a good question, and one we actually have an answer to," Kevin said taking charge.
"You see, we have an upcoming tour that still doesn't have an opening act and we all came together as a group and decided, we wanted you, Carpe Diem, to open for us," Howie explained. When the only reaction was blank stares he grew worried. He was relieved when Sara spoke up.
"You want us to open for you guys," she said skeptically.
"Yes," Howie said nodding.
Sara opened her mouth but Dani spoke up first.
"Okay, this may come off as rude but as a group," she said sarcastically, "we don't want to open for a boyband. The rumors that can spread and that bad publicity can't be good for our image. So, although it was really nice of you to offer, our answer is no."
Sara looked at Dani in shock. Dani stood up and walked out of the room and Kayla hurried after her, leaving Sara and Kristen to deal with the guys.
"Uh...um sorry about her outburst," Sara said apologizing for Dani.
"Yeah and I hope you find someone to open your tour for you," Kristen said backing out of the room.
Sara smiled but paused when she realized she wanted to open for them. She didn't want to leave and never see them again. She wanted to be on a big tour and have people noticing them as real artists. She wanted all that, and if they said no to this deal, it'd be a career mistake. But she'd have to convince the other girls first.
Dani plopped down on the couch in Patricia's office. Kristen joined her while Kayla took the floor. They all jumped when the door slammed open and Sara followed by Patricia hurried in.
"Are you an idiot?" Sara asked yelling at Dani. "Do you just realize what you made us give up?"
"Yes, a bad deal," Dani said seriously.
"A good deal Dani, a very good deal," Sara said in a much softer tone of voice.
"No, maybe you think so but we don't. A boy band Sara, c'mon. You may like them but as a career choice, it'd be a bad one," Dani said getting ticked off.
Sara saw red she was so angry. "That was low Dani even for you. Their tours are big and we'd get a much bigger fan base. You know it and you two know it," Sara said to Kayla and Kristen.
"Hey, I want to open for them!"Kristen said hurt by her assumption. "I agree i'd be a great way to get a bigger fan base."
"You two are being stupid. Don't you understand, the rumors that can spread. It could end badly, no wait, it would end badly," Dani said willing them to see her side.
"Maybe rumors will spread but rumors are rumors. Not true and not everyone will believe them," Sara pointed out.
"It's a bad deal," Dani insisted.
Sara shook her head. "No, there's more to your unwillingness to go. It has nothing to do with the band, it has to do with you. Why don't you want to go?" Dana turned away stubbornly.
"Dani, we've always told eachother the truth, or at least I have. If we start holding things back now, our friendship won't make itm," Sara said quietly.
Patricia had watched the whole conversation in silence but decided that this had become a private talk. She left the room quietly so it wouldn't disturb them.
"Does this have something to do with Neil?" Sara asked sounding upset but to the naked eye, she looked fine.
"Dani, you can tell us," Kayla added softly.
Dani slowly nodded. Neil Stomber had broken her heart not less than 4 months previous to the meeting. They had been high school sweethearts and engaged right after they graduated. The engagement had been a long one, two years to be exact. Neil had found someone else and that's why he hadn't been able to set a date. Dani was still not over it.
"Oh Dani! When are you going to realize that Neil was a dog and you were tooo good for him?" Kayla asked giving her a hug.
"Dani I think you need a break from Orlando, Florida. Please let us take this deal," Sara said joining the hug.
Kristen joined the hug too, and they all held their breath waiting for Dani's answer. Their biggest career move ever, depended on Dani and her ability to leave Orlando.
~Meanwhile~
"Well that went well," Nick said leaning back in his chair. "They didn't seem to like us."
"I don't know, Sara, the short blonde one, seemed to like us. I think she wanted to except the deal," Kevin said standing up and walking to the window.
"It doesn't matter if one of them wants to, they all have to want to," A.J. said still a bit pissed off at the tone of Dani had used on them.
"Maybe she'll talk the rest into it and if not, we're back to square one," Howie said pouring himself some more coffee.
"Don't get your hopes up," A.J. muttered loud enough so they heard.
"Well," Kevin said sitting down, "lets start brainstorming for a different group or singer. They have to have a lot of talent and be able to start in less then a month."
"And have the ability to survive living in a bus," Nick added. "Remember that one girl group, All Stars. They got annoying with all their complaining."
Brian had been silent throught their conversation but decided to voice his opinion. "I think we should hold out for Carpe Diem."
"Why?" A.J. asked turning to face him.
"Because they'll change their mind. I just know it," Brian said nodding his head.
"What if we don't want them anymore?" A.J. asked.
"Just because your ego was bruised doesn't mean they are any different of a group. They would really spice up our tour and you know it," Nick teased.
"That has nothing to do with why I don't want them on tour. They insulted us, because we're a boy band. She acted like we were diseased or something. She's a-"
"That's enough!" Kevin yelled silencing both of them. "We'll give them two days to make up their minds before we find someone else."
Brian nodded his head while A.J. sat their glaring at the wall.
"Now, lets finish brainstorming and see what groups fit our description," Kevin said going back to their list.
"They need to truly want to sing," Howie said after a moment of silence.
They all jumped as the door flew open. Carpe Diem's manager strolled in with a big smile on her face. She stopped right before them.
"Carpe Diem has officially signed themselves to your tour," she said setting a piece of paper before them. "All they need to know is when the tour starts, how many songs they need and what places you'll be visiting."
"You got them to agree. Patricia, you are a life saver." Kevin stood up to give her a hug.
"Gee, I wish I deserved your praise but I didn't get Dani or well anyone to agree. Sara did but she won't take credit for it. She said as a group they decided," Patricia explained.
"Who cares who got them to sign, they signed!" Nick sad excited.
"Yes, I agree who cares. But now, we have a tour to get ready for," Howie said nodding his head. All the guys smiled and followed Patricia out of the board room. This tour would be awesome.
