Kayla knocked loudly on AJ’s hotel room door. She wanted to talk to him and Howie was already at breakfast so they could talk in private.
AJ opened the door slowly. “Oh, hey Kayla,” he said surprised.
“Hey, um, can we talk?” she asked hopefully.
“Well this isn’t really a good time,” AJ said softly. “You see, Dani’s sleeping. She kinda had a rough night so, how ‘bout we talk in an hour.”
Kayla opened and closed her mouth a couple times before she finally was able to say,” Forget it. I don’t have anything to say.”
AJ watched as Kayla practically jogged down the hallway. He was still confused a half hour later when Dani started to stir. She opened her eyes slowly and smiled when she spotted him on the other bed.
“Oh god! It’s morning isn’t it?” Dani shot up and combed her hair with her hands. “Yeah, I probably should have woken you up but you were sleeping so good,” AJ said.
Dani smiled. “Alex, that was really sweet and I don’t want this to take away from the moment or anything but I gotta get out of here.”
“Why?”
“If anyone found out I was here, all night, I’d be in the doghouse with Pat and the rest of the girls. I know for a fact Kevin would kill you and I don’t want that on my consious.”
“Ahh, shit,” AJ said closing his eyes. “Somebody already knows.” He went on to explain about Kayla’s behavior and he didn’t even think that it would be bad for anybody to know. “But we didn’t do anything.”
“It doesn’t matter Alex,” Dani said softly. “Plus, besides you having Kevin mad at you, now you have Kayla to worry about.”
AJ groaned. “Oh shit, now she’s going to back off and never talk to me again. I’ve lost her forever. I’m such an idiot.”
“Okay, now you’re being to mellow-dramatic for me. Goodbye,” Dani said walking towards the door.
“You’re just gonna leave me here alone,” AJ said surprised.
“Yep,” Dani said opening the door and walking out.
AJ put his head in his hands. The plan seemed so easy at first. All he had to do was make Kayla jealous. And it looked like it was working and then he had to blow it. He wasn’t ashamed that he had Dani stay the night. She was a friend, she understood him. Now, if only Kayla was capable of that.
Dani paused for a second before entering the rec room. Kayla was already in there along with Sara and Kristen. She had stayed away from her for nearly 24 hours. But now it was time to face the music.
“Hey girls!” Dani said smiling. She joined Kristen on the one coush. “Sara, you still haven’t told me about your date.”
Sara smiled. “What do you want to know?”
“Well first off, did you have fun?” Kristen asked.
“Yeah, but we’re still friends. I don’t want anything more,” Sara said shrugging her shoulders.
“Dani, how could you?” Kayla asked abruptly.
Dani looked at her and took a long breath. “How could I what?”
Kayla glared at her. “You know, I thought you had morals. I thought you of all people, wouldn’t go that far. Especially after only dating him for a couple days.”
Dani saw read. She knew Kayla would be mad. Hell, she even knew she was probably feeling a bit hurt. But nobody was allowed to doubt her morals. Especially her friends.
“You know Kayla, even if I did, why in the hell does it matter to you? Why do you care?” Dani asked pissed off.
“I...don’t...uh,” Kayla said at a loss for words.
“I mean, we are dating. I have a reason for doing that,” Dani continued.
“So you did,” Kayla said no longer angry but just hurt.
Dani stared at her for a second. “No Kayla, we didn’t. God, he was comforting me. Because I was sad and confused. He made me feel better and then I ended up falling asleep. He would never do that anyways because,” Dani paused. “Because he likes you. Really likes you. But I don’t know why. You obviously think very little of him and me.”
Kayla watched as Dani left the rec room. She looked at her hands before looking up at Sara and Kristen. “I messed up, didn’t I?”
Sara cleared her throat. “Well, yeah, I guess so.” Kristen nodded her head in agreement.
“What do I do now?” Kayla asked to herself but Sara answered anyway.
“You go talk to AJ and clear things up. Then you definitely need to apologize to Dani,” she said standing up. “You can do that in any order.”
Sara left the rec room followed by Kristen. Kayla sighed. She didn’t have the guts to do either one.
Sara pulled at the halter top she had to wear to the concert. It fit her perfectly and it was pink, her favorite color. It just showed more skin than she was use to.
“Hey,” Brian said tapping her on the shoulder. Sara was smiling as she turned to face him.
“Yes,” she said softly.
“What are you doing tonight?” he asked.
“Nothing yet,” Sara said slowly. “Why?”
“Well, I was wondering. Since I’m not doing anything and you aren’t doing anything. We could maybe do something together,” Brian said hopefully.
“Like what?”
“We could order something off paperview at the hotel,” Brian said. “Ya know, stay in tonight.”
Sara closed her eyes. The only question running through her head was, why did he want to stay in? But there was only one way to find out. “I’ll have to think about it and get back to you.” Sara almost changed her mind as Brian looked crestfallen.
“Oh okay then,” he said quickly. He walked away with his shoulders slumped.
“Sara, go tell him you’d love to,” Kayla said. She along with Kristen had witnessed the exchange between them. “You know you want to.”
“I do not,” Sara denied blushing. “He wants something more and I don’t want to lead him on.”
“You want the same thing he wants,” Kristen said shaking her head at Sara’s ability to deny her emotions.
“I do not!” Sara denied again.
Kristen and Kayla chuckled. “Some one doth proteth too much.”
“That’s it!” Sara said glaring at them. “I will hang out with him tonight. Only to prove to you two that we are better off friends. That even though one smile from him makes me melt. That even though he can make me laugh even when I’m in a horrible mood. That even though he is gorgeous but still is probably the sweetest guy I know. That he’s so down to earth.” Sara saw the knowing look pass between them. “We are better off friends.”
“Sara, were you even listening to yourself,” Kayla said. “You’re falling for him.”
“I am not!” Sara turned so she wasn’t facing them any more. “I’ll know when I’ve fallin for somebody.”
“Not that weak in the knees crap,” Kristen protested. “Sara, that doesn’t happen in real life.”
“It happened to my mom and to my sister,” Sara pointed out. “And it will happen to me. You’ll see.”
Kayla watched her walk away. “She and Brian belong together. Sometimes she is so pigheaded.”
Kristen nodded her agreement with the statement. “Well, you never know. She might get weak in the knees tonight. Brian doesn’t seem like the type to give up easily.”
“Thank god, he’s as stubborn as she is,” Kayla said.
“Carpe Diem! 2 minutes,” the stage manager said making Kayla jump. It was time for the concert.
