"I just want to go to bed," Sara whined as her "so-called" friends sat her in one of the chairs reserved for Carpe Diem.
"And you will, later," Kayla said hiding a smile as Brian peeked out at them. She gave him a quick nod and mouthed "she's styaing." It took all her stength not to laugh at the look of relief that flashed across his face.
"What's so important about this show?" Sara grumbled.
"You'll see," Kristen said sitting down on her left.
It was another 5 minutes before the lights dimmed and Sara watched as the Backstreet Boys took the stage. Their energy was amazing and you could just see the love for their fans on their faces.
The first half of the show flew by and Carpe Diem found themselves standing and clapping with the crowd.
Dani was watchign AJ goof off with Brian and jumped when someone touched her shoulder.
"Is this seat taken?" Wade asked motioning to the empty seat to her left.
Dani shook her head no. "I didnt' knkow you were staying for the show!" She yelled over the concert.
"I usually do," Wade said giving her a smile.
THe boys left the stage for a quick costume change which gave the girl's a chance to catch their breath.
"Aren't you glad you stayed Sara?" Kayla teased. "And the best is yet to come."
Sara looked at her in confusion. "The best? What else do they do? Sing well standing on their heads."
Wade chuckled along with everybody else. "That would be a bit difficult."
"Do you know what song comes next?" Dani asked curiously.
"A medly of their slow tunes," Wade said. Dani nodded and waited along with 20,000 screaming fans for the Boys' next amazing performance.
Sara was beginning to doze off but her eyes flew open as she heard Brian's Voice come over the speakers.
Instead of being on the main stage, they were on a stage at the back of the venue. Sara couldn't see him but she watched im on the big screens.
"First off, we want to thank all of you for coming out her e tonight. You've been a great audience. This next part of the show we usually do a meldley of a couple songs but tonight, we're changing it a bit," Brian paused.
Sara gave Kala a confused look. Why were they changing it?
"This next song is going out to a friend of mine. She's recently had her heart broken and I want her to know, I won't do the same," Brian said before AJ opened the song.
Sara leaned back in her seat and was suprised to learn she was crying. SHe hadn't even cried when Scott and her had broken up. Maybe it was time.
Nick walked KRisten to her hotel room. They had just had a quick dinner at McDonalds.
"So, do you think Brian has talked to Sara yet?" he asked grasping at anything to stay close to her.
"I doubt it," she said it seriously.
"Why do you say that?" he asked following her into her hotel room.
"Cause last I heard, Sara was locked in her hotel room."
"What about Dani? Is she locked in there too?" Nick asked.
"Nope, she's hanging out with AJ and Brian," Kristen said dropping her purse on her bed.
"How do you know all this?"
"Cause I'm the smart one," she joked.
"Now I wouldn't go that far," Nick said laughing as Kristen threw a pillow at him. "I was kidding. You have to be the smart one. I mean, you're dating me."
Kristen smiled. "I am, arent' I?"
"Yep," Nick said pulling her down on the bed beside him. HE scooted to the head of the bed and motioned for her to do the same. "How do you feel about that?"
Kristen looked at her hands and sighed. "I am happy. I probably shouldn't admit to this, your ego might get even bigger. But, I have had a small crush on you since I saw the video 'Quit Playing Games."
"Are you serious?" he asked suprised.
"Yeah, I don't even really know why, but something drew me to you specifically," Kristen said thoughtfully.
"Well, it must have been my hot bod," Nick said attempting to look sexy.
"You did, not just say that!" Kristen laughed.
NIck felt his face flush. "Well, maybe i like that saying."
"You do that."
"So, what's on your agenda tomorrow," Nick asked after a moment of silence.
"Relaxing! A full day," Kristen said excited. "I get to sleep in! Can you believe it? I haven't been able to do thta in a long time!"
"I wonder if we do too."
"Hey, if you do, wanna hang out?" Kristen asked hopefully.
"YOu know I do," NIck said pulling her closer to him.
Kristen layed her head down on Nick's chest. It felt great to have somebody hold her. And that's the last thing she remembered before she closed her eyes to savor the moment.
When he heard a noise from inside he sighed. "Please."
Sara was sitting on the floor staring at the door. A part of her wanted to open the door but another part of her wouldn't let her. Opening the door would lead to talking and if she talked, she'd open up, and she didn't want to do that. Opening the door would be like giving in. Opening the door would be like opening her heart and she was never doing that again. It was too painful when you got rejected.
"Sara, I dont' want ot go and get a key from the front desk, but I will," Brian's voice came through the door.
Sara knew that he really would but she didn't care. She couldn't move.
"Fine, I'm going to get a key," he said and it took Sara a minute to even realize he had finally left.
Brian was back at her door in 7 minutes. They bought the story that he had locked himself out of his room. He unlocked it and slowly pushed the door open.
Sara looked up at him and they stared at eachother for 5 minutes. Sara couldn't say anything, and Brian just loved looking at her.
"What are you doing on the floor?" he asked finally.
"I dont' know," Sara said truthfully.
"WHy didn't you let me in?"
Sara sighed. "Cause I don't feel like talking. Or wait, I'm afraid of what you'll say or what I'll say. Plus, what should I say? Hiding was easier. Much easier," Sara rambled.
Brian smiled. "Well, how about I say what's on my mind and then you can talk or kick me out. It's your choice, I hope you talk to me but yeah."
Sara knew that he was nervous too. About what, she had no clue. But he was. And now there was no way she could kick him out. Sara finally nodded her head for him to begin.
"Sara, when you turned me down, all I could think was you weren't interested," he started sitting down in one of the chairs. "But then I talked to Kristen and she told me something that made sense. That Scott broke your heart and then I thought, well maybe she's scared of relationships." Brian stopped to gather his thoughts. Sara was staring at him and her face wasn't giving him anything to go on.
"So, I came up with dedicating the song to you. Maybe I moved to fast but when I feel the way I'm feeling right now, you tend to make rash decisions. But I truly like you," Brian finished.
Sara found herself crying once again. When Brian looked like he was going to say or do something she held her hand up. "I usually never cry but this past year has been one emotional thing after the other." Brian smiled as she said that.
"Do you know how long I have waited to hear somebody say that to me? And now, I don't deserve it. I'm not ready. Maybe I'll never be ready again," Sara said softly.
"Because of scott," Brian said then added after Sara nodded, "What'd he do?"
Sara wasn't going to tell him anything but then found herself spilling everything.
"Scott was a good friend before my boyfriend. We talked about everything and that didn't change after we got together. We were even closer if htat's possible. I loved him and he loved me. We were actually talking marrige when the demo tape Kayla sent to Jive Records actually got a response," Sara paused to go sit down on the other chair.
"We had to move and Scott was so supportive and was just my rock through out it all. My parents didn't care so I needed him. Then one year into becoming Carpe Diem he called me and said we needed to talk. I flew home and he had a nice speech planned and basically told me he needed someone who would be around. I told him I understood and I really do but...it still hurts."
Brian wished Scott was standing in the room so he could tell him what he thought of him. "Not all guys are like that."
Sara rolled her yes. "My head knows that but my heart doesn't."
"Follow your heart, one date with me. Just one, then you can sya leave me alone or something." Brian watched the emotions displayed on her face. She was scared, intruiged and mad that he was pushing the issue.
"One date?" she asked suspiciously.
"Just one," he said holding up three fingers. "Scouts honor."
"Okay, one date," Sara said already wishing she could take it back.
Brian jumped out of the chair. "You won't regret this. I promise." He leaned down and kissed her forehead. "Goodnight. Ill let you know tomorrow what we are doing."
Sara watched him leave and as soon as the door closed the tears fell again. She had just set her self up for more heartache but this time, her heart might not make it.
