Chapter 14

"Why did people invent alarm clocks?" Kayla grumbled walking towards the girls' bus.

"Yeah, who decided to get up this early?" Dani asked putting her sunglasses on.

"That would be the boys and your friend Pat," Wade said waling up behind them.

"I'm gonna kill her," Dani grumbled looking around the hotel parking lot for their manager.

"Don't you think that's a bit drastic? I mean, it is a little early in the morning but not that early," Wade said giving her a smile.

Dani glared at him. "6 o'clock in the morning is more than a little early. It's murder."

Wade chuckled. "Looks like someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Why are you so angry?"

"I don't know," Dani mumbled before hurrying on the bus to hide her embarrassment. Wade probably thought she was a bitch. And maybe she was but Wade didn't need to know that yet.

"Where's Kristen?" Kayla asked joining her in the rec room.

"I was talking to Nick," Kristen said from behind her.

"About what?" Dani asked curiously.

"Nothing really. Just the show, movies we like, music, he asked me out, and the ride," Kristen said smiling.

"Back up! He asked you out!" Kayla said almost yelling. Kristen nodded excitedly. She had a big silly grin on her face which made them laugh.

"Don't look to excited," Dani mumbled between giggles.

"I can't help it! I have dreamed about going out with him and now it happens and I can't seem to chill out. What am I going to wear?" Kristen asked dramatically.

"How about that nice forest green dress you bought a month ago?" Dani asked thoughtfully.

"What up girls! What up!" Sara said hurrying into the rec room.

"What's with the rush?" Kayla asked confused.

Sara smiled. "Pat threatened to steal my romance books if I didn't get on the bus right away."

"Trashy books," Dani corrected.

Sara stuck her tongue our and plopped down beside her. "So what were ya girls talking about?"

"Nick asked Kristen out," Kayla said grabbing the remote from Dani. She turned the tv to MTV.

"No way! What'd you say?" Sara asked.

Kristen gave her a look that said 'What do you think?'

Sara felt her face flush. "Duh, sorry. Where is he taking you?"

"Dinner," Kristen said smiling. "It was so sweet."

Dani, Kayla and Sara exchanged smiles and nods. It seems one of the girl's from Carpe Diem was, indeed, falling in love. With a BAckstreet Boy none-the-less.

"Sara!" Brian called hurrying off the elevator.

Sara was just opening her and Dani's hotel room but paused to wait for him. "Yeah?"

"Um...can I talk to you?" Brian asked hopefully.

Sara looked at her watch. "Well, I have to be at the venue in a half hour but I think I can talk to you for 5 minutes. Pat will kill me if I'm late again."

Brian smiled and followed her into her hotel room. It was nice, like any other hotel room. 2 queen size beds, a nice bathroom and a small round table with 2 chairs on opposite sides. There was a chest with 6 drawers that the 19 inch tv sat on.

"What's on your mind?" Sara asked digging through her duffle bag.

"Well," Brian froze. He didn't want to ask her out in a dumb way. It had to be cool and romantic. "Why aren't you with the other girls?"

Sara gave him a confused look but answered it anyway. "I forgot part of my costume here."

Brian nodded and searched for something else to say. "Um...what do you think of the tour so far?"

"It's fun," Sara stopped. "Brian, you didn't come up here to ask me that."

"I know," Brian mumbled so she couldnt' hear. "Sara, what are you dong after the show tonight?"

"Coming back here, most likely," Sara said shrugging her shoulders, "why>"

"Nick and I were going to go to this little nightclub we heard about but then he invited Kristen to come with. I don't feel like being the third wheel, so, would you like to go with me," Brioan explained.

Sara looked nervous. "Like a date."

Brian smiled a hopeful smile. "Yeah, a date." He slowly quit smiling as Sara sat beside him on one of the beds. She didn't look happy or even excited. She looked terrified.

"I can't Brian," she said quietly. "It's not you, it's me. I hate when people say that but it's true. It's too soon for me."

"Too soon?"

"I broke up with my long-time boyfriend about a month ago. And I realize that a month is a long time but he was also my best friend," Sara said quietly. "Also, I hate nightclubs."

"Well, okay...yeah." Brian stood up and slowly made his way to the door.

"Brian, we can still be friends, can't we?" Sara asked sadly.

"Yeah, friends," Brian said walking out of the hotel room.

"Nick! Nick, I need to talk to you," Brian said trying to pull him away from Kristen.

"What man? I'm having a conversation with a beautiful lady," Nick said earning a grin from Kristen.

"I'm not going with you tonight," Brian said over the noise of the backstage crew.

"Why not? I thought you were going to ask Sara to go with you," Nick said confused. "There she is now, why don't you go ask her?"

"I did ask her, she turned me down," Brian said softly but Kristen still over heard him anyways.

"You asked Sara out," She said suprised. "Well, maybe her getting rid of Scott was a good thing."

"Scott? Who's Scott?" Nick asked.

Brian ignored him and turned to Kristen. "She broke up with him, she made it sound like he dumped her and she's picking up the pieces."

"Well, in actual reality,he broke up with her, but she claims she understands. He broke her heart or at least that's what the girls and I think," Kristen said thoughtfully. "Scott is a great guy but I never actually though they would make it."

"Why not?" Nick and Brian asked at the same time.

"They are better as friends' they both wanted different things from life. If you want more though, you have to ask Sara," Kristen said quietly.

Brian nodded. "But he broke her heart."

"Yes," Kristen said seriously. "Now, I have got to go and put my outfit on."

"Well, ;you're still not coming?" Mick said watching her walk away.

"Nah, I gotta talk to Sara," Brian said giving him a smile.

"What's made you so happy?"

"I gotta plan," He said hurrying away.

Sara stood in the shadows watching the hustle nad bustle that always took place backstage. Usually she would be joking around with someone or going over dance moves or something. But tonight she felt to sad and confused to even think clearly.

She found herself watching Brian and rethinking their conversation but she truly felt that she had made the right choice.

"Sara! Time to take the stage," Dani said waving her over.

The next half hour was spent earning the respect of the crowd. Some of the fans already liked Carpe Diem but half the crowd didn't. A lot of the fans didn't like seeing a "girl group" open for "their" boys. But even those peopel found themselves liking Carpe Diem.

"Hey everybody! Now, I know that you're probably getting antsy and want the Backstreet Boys to come out, right?" Dani yelled smiling as the crowd screamed. "Well guess what, in a short 5 minutes, they are going to be on this stage right here. Singing for you guys." The crowd went crazy as Carpe Diem left the stage.

They eached grabbed a towel and wiped their faces which smeared most of their makeup. Sara headed off towards her dressing room. Their part of the show had gone great bu not, Sara was ready for bed. It had been a long day and she would love to just put it behind her.

"Hey Sara! Where are you goin?" Aj said grabbing her arm to stop her.

"The hotel, my hotel room," Sara snapped.

"Woah! Don't yell at me," AJ said holding up his hands.

Sara groaned as she closed her eyes. "Sorry, Jay. I didn't mean to sound so bitchy. It's just been a bad day and I wish it was tomorrow."

"Well, aren't you going to stay for the rest of the show?" he asked curiously.

"Not tonight," Sara gave him an apologetic smile before turning to go on her way.

"Everybody else is, the girls, Pat, Wade and your dancers. So, why don't you stay?"

"Cause I'm tired."

AJ watched as Sara walked into her dresing room and shut her door. Brian would have to be the one to convince here. This was his idea anyways.

"Brian!" AJ called after searching for him. HE found him talking to Kayla nad Kristen about his idea.

"Is she staying?" he asked hopefully.

"Not yet, you're going to be the one to tell her to stay. I triedand she blew me of," he said still confused about that. "Hey are you sure you want to go to all this trouble. She must be messed up turning us both down."

"Is Alex's ego bruised?" Kayla asked sarcastically.

"Actually, it is," he shot back before walking away.

Kayla rolled her eyes. She noticed Brian's face and smiled. "I'll get her to stay. You just worry about pulling this off."

Brian took a deep breath. The truth was, he was so scared. His plan could backfire so bad. He could only pray that Sara would react, well, in a good way.
