Dani jumped as the phone rang beside her. She was writing in her journal and had just gotten use to the peace and quiet. Her ears had finally stopped ringing.
"Hello?" she asked curiously.
"Get your butts over here. The guys want to talk to us," Kayla siad but hung up before Dani could say anything.
By the word "butts" she assumed that meant her and Sara but Sara wasnt' in the hotel room. Dani didn't have a clue where she had ran off too. As mad as she was at Dani, she could be gone for a long time.
She hid her journal and quickly checked her still-damp-hair to make sure she looked ok. It took her another 5 minutes to reach their room.
"Where's Sara?" Kayla asked motioning Dani into the crowded room.
"You hung up before I could tell you she wasn't in the room. I'm not her favorite person right now," Dani said sitting down on the bed AJ was sitting on.
"Great," Kayla said rolling her eyes. "Now who's going to go find her?"
"I will," Brian said suprising the girls.
"Um...okay...great. Thanks," Kayla said watching him leave the hotel room.
Sara wasnt' at the pool, lobby, arcade or the restraunt. He actually found Sara sitting on the floor, leaning against the wall, in the hotel gym.
"What are you doing in here?" Brian asked carefully.
"Exercising," Sara mumbled.
"Looks like it," Brian said hiding a grin.
Sara groaned. "Okay, I wasnt' exercising. I'm hiding out," she said quietly.
"Why are you hiding out?" Brian asked lowering himself on the ground beside her.
"I dont' want to talk to Dani. Or the girls and especially not Pat. I want ot feel sorry for myself in private," Sara hinted hoping he'd go away.
"Why do you want to sit alone and feel sorry for yourself? You don't seem like that kind of person."
Sara sighed and looked at him. He was right. She wasn't the type of person to hide from her problems. She usually faced them head on. WOrked at solving them, so she cold move on to another problem. But there was something different about this one.
"What do you think I should do?" Sara asked ignoring his question. She didn't know how to answer it.
"I think you should talk to Dani," Brian said softly. He saw the hurt flash through her face before she quickly disguised it. "I know you are hurt, you have every right to be hurt. But let me ask you one question. Do you think Dani's hurt too?"
"Yes," Sara mumbled after a couple minutes of silence.
"Then don't you think talking it out is imprtant? Dani's your best friend Sara, not everybody is lucky to have one of those. You have a great one, why not hear her out."
Sara looked at the floor and thought about hte things he said. It all made sense and she knew he was right. But the hurt she felt made her unsure.
"Do you know why I'm so afraid to talk to her?" Sara asked already knowing the answer. So she continued on. "Because what if she decides I'm not her best friend? What if she realizes that she could do better? I already lost my parents choosing to join Carpe Diem. I can't lose my best friend too." She had been able to hold the tears that had threaten to fall all day but now they flowed freely.
Brian reached over and pulled Sara into his arms. He could never stand tears. Tears were his undoing.
"Sara, babe. Then I think you know what to do," he said quietly. Just a hint above a whisper.
Sara took a deep breath and nodded. She wiped away her final tears and moved out of their embrace. She watched as Brian got ot his feet and placed her hand in his, that he so gallantly offered. No words were spoken as they made their way to Kayla and Kristen's hotel room. But they never did stop holding hands.
It was hours before everyone retired to their hotel rooms. But Sara had a lot of time to think about what she wanted to say. But as they both entered their hotel room, she couldn't seem to remember any of it.
Dani went to her bag and pulled out her pajamas. She was about to close the bathroom door when Sara's voice stopped her.
"Ah...Dani, we need to talk," she said sitting down on her bed.
"Yes we do," Dani agreed deciding that changing into her pajams could wait. "I still want to aologize Sara-"
Sara held up her hand making Dani go silent. "Let me say this first. You were there the day my parents humiliated me. Made me feel like I was lower than scum. All because I was following a dream. I never told you this, but a part of me died that day."
Dani made her way to Sara's side and sat down. Whenever Sara talked about her parents, she became upset. That's why she never talked about them.
"My parents have never really liked me, or that's the vibe I got. You know that much," Sara said softly. "Well, the day they rejected me, I lost something that you can't get back. Two days ago, I felt the same hting. That I had lost something that I shoudn't have. I thought I had lost your friendship."
"But Sara, you know you haven't. You're my best friend," Dani spoke up.
"Do I really know that Dani? I thought I did two days ago but then I find out that you wanted to be this different person."
"But that had nothing to do with ou, "Dani said confused.
"Maybe not but I was your best friend and you hadn't come to me with your feelings. I felt like I had failed in being your best friend. Like I hadn't realized how sad you were."
"But you couldn't have known. I wasn't exactly said either. More confused. The truth is, I didn't know where I fit in. You're the creative one, Kristen is the shy one. The cutesy one. And Kayla is the bold one. Who was I?"
"Dani, those are stupid classifications. I'm Sara not some creative genius. Kristen is Kristen. Kayla is Kayla. And you are Dani. Your the stable one out of Carpe Diem," Sara said trying to cheer her up.
Dani shook her head. "You're more stable than me. You keep each of us sane. Make sure we don't kill eachother. You work so hard at making all of us happy."
"I admit I do some of that," Sara conceded. "Dani, why do you need a classifaction?"
"Because every group has an image for every person in the group. What's my image?" Dani explaiend.
"Well now people see you as the wild child, I'm sure," Sara said smiling.
"I'm sorry I didn't talk to you about this," Dani said gesturing at her hair. "The truth is, I didnt' know if you'd agree or not. And I really wanted to do this."
"I would have agreed just because you would have wanted it this way," Sara said seriously.
"I wish I had known that before I did it," Dani said softly.
"So do I, but I understand why you didn't," Sara said giving her a hug. "I missed you. I have to tell you something."
"We only haven't talked for a little over a day, how much could have gone on?" Dani asked suprised.
"Brian," Sara said simply.
"You like Brian," Dani said nodding. "I thought so. He's cute but that's if you like little boy faces. I'm more into-"
"Wade," Sara said laughing when Dani grabbed a pillow and smacked her on the shoulder.
"I have been acting really obvious, haven't I?" Dani worried.
Sara rolled her eyes. "Only to me but hey, I pick up on obvious things."
"So what's been going on with you and Brian?" Dani asked smiling.
Sara went on to explain her conversations and feelings for the cute pop star. She smiled, happy to have her best friend back.
