| March 26th 2002 - Troy gets braces. After years of talk, threats and persistent dental suggestion, Troy finally got braces. For the next 30+ months, the houshold budget for such treats as peanut butter, soda, jaw breakers and a variety of other sins will be dramatically reduced as Troy finds out his limitations in eating sinful foods. Not a whole lot of pain, but enough discomfort and occasional amusement at "food schtuck to the woof of my mouf" that he is eating a lot of apple sauce and macaroni! No word on his girlfriend's opinion yet... _________________________________________________________________ |

| Spring 2002 - As soon as it's over, it starts again... Little League baseball is upon us already. After a succcessful learning experience in Winter (Fall) Ball, Tim was drafted to the majors and will play the next three seasons on the Mariners. With the unexpected draft, Dad had already committed to coaching in the minors, so he now draws double-duty as a head-coach in the Minors and an assistant coach in the Majors. Meanwhile, Jillian continues to enjoy her ballet and tap dancing and has now begun her sports career in earnest by playing Girls Softball. She currently plays at the T-Ball level. After several years of baseball and Tae Kwon Do, Troy has decided that bicycles and skateboards are more to his liking, so in addition to chasing girls, he puts in a fair amount of time on his bike... _________________________________________________________________ |
Fall 2001 - How fast they grow! At what seems far too soon, Troy has begun high school. As a freshman, his early interests appear to be headed toward computer science and electronics. Dad isn't at all upset at the thought of another INTEL employee in the house! _________________________________________________________________ |
March 20th, 2002 14 Years! Time flies and it seems like just yesterday that we drove off from the wedding in the back of the Model T... On the other hand, both of us have remarked to one another that we really can't remember what it was like without one-another. Our guess is, that's how it's supposed to be... _________________________________________________________________ |

| July 13th 2002 - Finally! A break from baseball! Tim has finished 5 continuous months of Little League baseball, playing on both a 10-12 Major team as well as a 9-10 All Star team. His Major team played 2 extra innings to a 1-0 loss in the league championship game, and his All Star team also lost in the final championship game as well. While he obviously loves baseball, we're all ready for a break. Next up: Fall Ball starts in August... Jillian has likewise finished her first year of softball and enjoys it tremendously. She proved to be a very able little player, and showed a lot of potential! Troy is used to his braces now. Actually, braces are almost a fashion statement for the teen crowd, so he doesn't mind them at all. Now, if only we could get him to brush adequately! _________________________________________________________________ |
| September 30th 2002 - Fall approaches... After a record heatwave this summer with more days over 100 degrees than any year in history, fall seems to have set in to our neck of the woods, with temps down in the 70's and the kids back in school. Sports are down to Tim playing fall ball and Dad helping out coaching. Tim is an active pitcher on his team for the first time and is doing well. Jillian has taken some time off of dance, but will be starting up again soon, and Troy continues to study both electronics as well as his girlfriend. He has expressed an interest in BMX racing in the spring, so he is up riding the hills every morning at 5am before school! A few little painting projects, much no more home improvements 'til spring! _________________________________________________________________ |
| January 30th 2003 - It's a new year... Well, Christmas is over, baseball ended right before Thanksgiving, but it's now starting again, and everyone is clamoring for web updates! Dad turned 30-10 in December, Tim's in 5th grade and will be 11 in a few weeks, Troy's a sophomore and turns 16 in another couple months, and Jillian is 7 and in 2nd grade. Tim is back playing Little League again, and Dad has taken on the team manager role for the first time in 7 years. If you want something done right they say... Jillian started playing basketball this year and is progressing quite well. She's the fastest on her team and scored 8 points in her last game. I guess it's true about time marching on! Check out the new pictures!!! _________________________________________________________________ |
| June 16th, 2003 Summer is here and another school year and baseball season is behind us. Troy, Tim and Jillian have all finished out the school term and look forward to a summer of rest and relaxation, although they will be attending summer school, much to their collective chagrin! Idol hands... Tim's baseball season is over for the summer. This was a rebuilding year for the team, so no chamiponships or no tournaments. Just some time to rest before fall ball starts up in September. He did well as the team's starting second baseman and filled in occasionally at shortstop and 3rd base. Likewise, Jillian finished her season in T-ball softball. As a 2nd-year player, she was a standout on her team and earned the sole MVP award given out on her team. She looks forward to moving up next year and playing in a more challenging division... Curt, Tammy's brother and a few friends have started a men's softball team and will be playing in a local rec league this summer. While the level of competition is low and the league is recreational in nature, they expect to be competitive and will play a dozen or so games between July and September. With the excellent physical conditioning of each of the players, and the young age, the team name "Flat Liners" seemed incredibly appropriate! Tammy is in the beginning stages of working on her RDA certificate in orthodontic dentistry. She works for a local orthodontist now who has agreed to sponsor her endeavor and she has completed most of the on the job work required. A couple of specialized courses, and a test or two and she's there! _________________________________________________________________ |
| 2/27/2004 The Winter rains have set in and weve made it thru another holiday season as the Lerner family steams along. In the last 6 months, Tim has now gotten braces, Tammy is closer to her RDA license , Troy and Curt have begun a 1970 Chevelle 454 restoration project and Jillian has emerged as the star of her basketball team! In hopes that future orthodontic work can be reduced, Tim now sports a new set of braces. Hes not too worried about the new look since they seem to be in fashion. It shouldnt slow up his baseball game any and in any event this first round will be off in a year or so anyway. A few years after that, the 2nd phase of braces should require less work. His final season of little league baseball is just starting up too. Curt no longer manages the team but still coaches and is able to dedicate more time to Tim. Tim has established himself as a dominant second-baseman in the league and is clearly a team leader. His goal for the final year is not only to make the Major All-Star team, but also to hit a few home runs. Hes spent the last 4 months of the off-season re-working his hitting and has developed quite a bit of power, so well see Curt and Troy have finally started work on their project car. While Troy doesnt yet have a driver license, theyre still working on a 1-2 year restoration of a 1970 big-block Chevelle. They drove 7+ hours round-trip to get it (which was a story in itself!) and it now resides in the garage where neighbors think theyve lost their minds. The car is complete, straight and has very little rust, but its still a total restoration project as the interior was left exposed to the elements for years. It came relatively dis-assembled and with a 454ci engine, making things easier to get started on and theyve already completely stripped and re-painted the interior, and the new dash and interior panels are all waiting to be installed. In the coming months, theyll be rebuilding the suspension, converting from drum to front disc brakes, and reinstalling the engine and TH400 transmission for those of you that understand these things. Paintwork is still up for debate, but the car was originally lime green inside and out, so there WILL be color change. Yellow w/ black stripes is the leading candidate right now You can click on the Car Project link to see photos of the ongoing work. For those of you on dial-up access, the photos are a large size and may take a little while to open, so my apologies in advance! Jillian just completed her 6-game basketball season for 3rd and 4th graders. While she is fully a head shorter than many of her teammates and opposition, she more than makes up for it with her aggressiveness and skills. She had several steals, quite a few assists and scored quite a few too. Now, if only she can wait until she grows a little! _________________________________________________________________ |
| 8/6/2004 Well, it's been 6 months since the last update and the family continues to grow. We've seen another school year pass, which means Troy is now going into his SENIOR year in high school. Tim has left the K-6 elementary school scene and is advancing to 7th grade middle-school and Jillian is going into 4th grade! As a Senior, Troy now stands at the top of the heap at his school. Predictably, he's ready to graduate and experience the real world. He's looking for a part-time job right now as well, to support his teenage lifestyle. While he does little at the school in the way of extra-curricular activities, he's a popular kid and like most teenagers, spends a great deal of time on the phone with his girlfriend Cayleen. Did we mention Cayleen? She lives in Roseville, the next town over and goes to a competing high school. They met last February on a blind date arranged by the two mothers who used to work together. A first date on Valentines Day to the mall and they quickly grew close. As a very family-oriented girl, Cayleen has been great for Troy who tends to be more of the reclusive teenager type. She comes over and they watch movies with us or they BAKE (!) in the kitchen. Cayleen loves to talk on the phone and will even talk to Tammy occasionally if Troy isn't home. She's even managed to get him to start wearing clothes that fit and don't give him the look of a plumber in training. She's also a swimmer and in fact, along with two of her three sisters, gave Jillian her swimming lessons last year. Her twin sister is also a swimmer, as were her other two sisters. Both families adore the kids, so we're all quite happy with the arrangement! Tim had quite a season in baseball as a 12-yr old in the 10-12 yr old Major division. Dad didn't manage the team this year but did coach, so there was more time to help Tim directly. With a good core of kids returning, the team was confident it would do well. By the time the season ended, we'd won not only the league championshjip, but the City Championship and placed 2nd in the Area Championship as well. It was a lot of baseball, and while both enjoyed it tremendously, they were ready for a break. They'll be moving in to the Juniors division next season where Tim will play against 13-14 yr olds on a bigger field. He's excited and looking forward to it. Dad hasn't decided whether he'll coach with the big boys yet or not... |
| Jillian likewise had an exciting softball season. She moved into the "Rookies" division where as an 8-yr old, she played against other girls in the 7-10 range. She quickly earned the respect of her peers and was a starter like her brother at 2nd base. She also wore #5 like her brother and also became an excellent bunter like her brother. By the time her season was over, her team had also won the league championship in which she played a double header against a heavily favored team, played at the catcher position for the entire two games and bunted in the winning run in the first game. She looks forward to the fall softball league and basketball later this winter. Troy and Curt continue to work on the Chevelle. Thus far, they've completely stripped the interior and repainted the sheet metal, restored and rebuilt the front suspension, changed out the old drum brakes for front disk brakes, and most recently they've had the engine completely rebuilt. The engine is currently on the stand in the garage awaiting re-assembly and the body is unbolted from the frame awaiting removal for frame and under-body painting. Next up after that is some quick sheet metal replacement in the rear to fix some old rust damage that was improperly repaired and then the car will be reassembled and eventually painted. With the rebuild and modifications in the engine, the desktop dyno sheets say the 454 will be producing in the neighborhood of 450HP, so this will be a really fun ride when it's done! _________________________________________________________________ |
| 3/24/2005 Another 7 months is past and we continue to move forward. Troy graduates in 3 months, and turns 18 in 1 month. He's quiet, but excited... Tim is 13 now and in 7th grade. He' moved on in baseball and now plays in the Juniors Division where he plays with 13 and 14 yr olds. He's hoping to make the high school team in two years, so this is the last stop on the way to that goal. He's an excellent 2nd-baseman and a good clutch hitter... Jillian finished another year of basketball and is now 9 and in the 4th grade. She is just starting her softball season and like her brother, will be one of the stars of the team. Troy and Dad have recently put the now rebuilt engine in the project car, finished most of the body work and are now deep into reassembly. With any luck, the car should be running in another month and driving in about 2-3 months. Reno's "Hot August Nights" car show is there timeline goal and they're still hoping to make it. | Tammy continues her work in the Orthodontic field and soon hopes to fulfill her goal of certification as an RDA which will open further doors of opportunity. Dad still is with Intel, and when he's not working is coaching both Tim and Jillian in his 14th year of youth sports. Shame it doesn't pay better...! |
