I think you have figured out by now that my message was not just to draw support for our District convention, but it was also an attempt to make you aware that it is not too late to do the things that you have put off to another day. It is only too late when you dont do it at all. How about doing it today! Remember, Good Things Happen to Good People and that is why WE SERVE. Governor Jim Hall Governor's Tid Bits Governor Apologizes! I am sad to say that I was not good enough to remember that there was an omission in the Foundations Candy Day Report (even though it was verbally brought to my attention during the last Cabinet meeting) and I failed to include the Hoyleton Lions in last months newsletter as one of the clubs who gave 100% of their Candy Day monies to the Foundation. For this error I am truly sorry and would like to formally apologize at this time to the Hoyleton Lions for my mistake. However, I am extremely happy that someone is actually reading my monthly newsletter. Lioness/Lions Caramel Pop Day The 2003 Carmel Pop Day will be Friday, May 2nd. It can also be held on a different date with Foundation approval. Like Candy Day, this is an excellent fund raising event that your club can participate in and like Candy Day, the Foundation gets 60% of your net while your club gets to retain the other 40% for your local vision and hearing impaired activities. I would hope your club will take advantage of this excellent opportunity not only to support the growing needs of the Foundation, but also the needs of your own club. Might I suggest that you get permission to collect in the town nearby you that does not have a Lions club. You can even suggest to that town that in exchange you will try to bring one of our Foundation's programs (like the Hearing Bus) to their community. Perhaps this will lead to the start of a new club. Please contact the Foundation today! Attention Presidents and Secretaries: Elections of officers for the year 2003-2004 and the submission of PU101s must be completed by April 30th. Originals should be sent to this Governor, with copies sent to Cabinet Secretary Turner and Vice District Governor Hauenschild. Secretaries, this is also a friendly reminder that you should be sending in your Monthly Membership Reports to International by the 10th of the month. Thanks! Additional District Convention Information: Friday nights games of chance will consist of the following: Blackjack: Please arrive at the Convention Center by 6:45pm. $10 will buy you your stake of phony money. Play will start at 7:00 and conclude at 8:45. The top three players with the most money at the end of play will receive cash prizes based on the number of total participants. Horse Race Game: This dice game will be played the entire night (7 to 9pm) and will consist of several races. Try your luck at this easy to learn, fast paced game of chance and perhaps walk away with the purse (thats money in horse race talk!). Japanese Slot Machines: These video games make a return appearance at the convention. A $5 donation lets you play. Every time your machine stops on a winner, you will receive a ticket. One lucky ticket will be drawn on Sunday for half the pot. So come to the convention Friday night, have some fun, and help out District 1-CN. Saturdays Antiquing Trip: participants will meet at the hotel lobby at 9:45am. We will car pool to Greenville which is about a 30 minute drive. Anyone wishing to drive should contact Convention Chairman Jim Beimfohr. You will return by 2:00pm. Banners: Please plan on having someone from your club bring your club banner (you must provide your own stand) for display during the convention. These can be set up Friday evening or Saturday morning. Thanks!! Your Lions of Illinois Foundation is a big business. Hope your plans for a successful Carmel Pop day are well advanced. This Foundation fund raiser is the least used. The caramel pop candy from Fannie May is far superior to the candy used for Candy Day. While this was originally a Lioness fund raiser, it is open to any Lions Club if a Lioness Club is not using it. Sweepstakes is the second largest fund raiser of your Foundation. Sight and Sound Sweepstakes tickets are in your possession. Please try to attain the goal of your Trustee selling one book per member. If each member sold one book, the gross revenue would exceed $240,000.00. The biggest sales year to date is not close. District Convention is fast approaching. PLEASE make plans to have your club fully represented at the convention. Your Governor has done a terrific job this year. Come to convention and show your appreciation of a job well done. Elections for Governor, Vice Governor and District Foundation Trustee will be held at the convention. Please attend and vote. Show your support for Governor James Hall , Vice Governor Jim Hauenschild, Vice Governor candidate Bill McKinney and trustee candidate Jerry Clemens. Plan today to ATTEND the NACLF convention at Indian Lakes and State Convention in Springfield. Show the other Districts of Multiple District 1 which District is "The Garden Spot of Lions". ATTENTION ALL CABINET MEMBERS Just a reminder: ALL CABINET MEMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT A WRITTEN REPORT for the cabinet meeting to be held on Sun, 23 Mar 03. Oral reports will not be given. Please forward a copy of your report to me to arrive NLT 17 Mar 03 so I may make required copies or bring 45 copies of your report to the meeting. Thank You.................. Submitted by: Lion Barbara Taylor, Dist. 1-CN Retention Chairman ZONE MEETINGDISTRICT 1-CN/WABASH REGION/ZONES 1 & 2Official call to attend the 3rd Zone Meeting for the 2002 2003 year.
This is a joint Zone 1 & 2 Meeting. Dinner will be served at 6:00 P.M. Please RSVP to your Zone Chairman so that we can have a head count for dinner. Please keep in mind that Lions Clubs are a Service Organization and not a social club. As such clubs need to participate at the Zone, Region and District levels to stay up to date on all of the programs available to serve your community. Attendance by Club Presidents & Secretaries is requested to obtain this vital information. All other members are welcome. It would be great if Wabash Region would have 100% club attendance. We would like to request each club continue to send us a copy of your monthly membership report and activities report. This will assist us in our Zone Report to the District Governor. Cabinet Secretary Ted Turner provided you with an extra copy of the Activities Report along with our address labels. Please schedule your Governors Visit ASAP if you have not already done so. District 1-CN Convention is scheduled for March 21 23, have you registered? Dont wait until the last minute. Mail it today. Looking forward to seeing you there! Lion Elias Simpson
Lion James MiddleCalf To Illinois Lions, Lioness, Leos: Do you stop and pick up a penny, nickel etc when you see it on the sidewalk? Would you pick up an aluminum tab? Well our Lion of Illinois Foundation Alternate Revenue Sources Committee has approved a new pilot project: Aluminum tabs. Yes, pick up the alum tabs when you see them. Pull the tab off a pop, beer, fruit, vegetable and soup cans. Collect them in an empty peanut butter jar, sandwhich bag, pretzel jar or any type of container and give them to your District Environmental Chairman or Trustee. They will then give the tabs to our Lions of Illinois Foundation and they will be cashed in for dollars for our Low Vision program. PDG's Lion Mush and Carol (McCann) Kojima have volunteered to store these tabs and then recycle them for dollars for our Foundation. 113 pounds were turned in netting $39.55 for our Low Vision program. Recycling our used eye glasses, hearing aids, keys and alum tabs, all things that are useful and that you no longer can use we can recyclr to help others and to help with the cost of our programs, to help others within our state and throughout the world. Lion Leon Martin, District 1-H Environmental Chairman has been pushing this program during his presentation to the Cabinet and clubs this Lions year. Isn't that why we became Lions to Serve and help others who are unable to help themselves. Have you seen our new Key Recycling brochure? Contact our Lions of Illinois Foundation, your District Ambassador or Trustee if you are interested in obtaining this new brochure. Lion Carol McCann-Kojima PDG
