This is a solo project of GURU the other half of GANGSTARR. Primo actually has nothing to do with this album, and all the beats are done by GURU. So they are quite simple. As you can see from the title, the whole album's topic goes by the experimental fusion of Jazz and HipHop. The guests that appear starts with Branford Marsalis, as usual and CARLEEN ANDERSON, ROY AYERS, N'DEA DAVENPORT, RONNY JORDAN , and COURTNEY PINE. And don't forget MC SOLAR!!! He puts this Jazzy feeling all around the house. I'm quite into French HipHop, but the albums are quite hard to get in Japan. I wonder if I ever get a chance to get IAM and NTM albums......

This is one of the greatest album that I heard!!! I expected it to be great and it just turned out to be even more greater!!! The skills of the MCs to the great Chicago turntablists.... Big shouts to the Chicago Underground Scene!!!! It's really something worth to buy the album. The song you should check is "SMOKE" which was used by DJ KRUSH at the show in ASTORIA. A real HEADZ loving beat!!!!

This is a single cut from the compilation album , THE LYRICIST LOUNGE VOL. 1. Since it's from RAWKUS , the main MC is MOS DEF , but you can hear a lot from Q-Tip and TASH ( I don't know who the hell he is....) The producer is well known Shawn J Period , so I can guarantee that the track is good. The B-Side features Talib Kweli , just like BLACK STAR , and this track is OK too.

This guy, PEANUT BUTTER WOLF is originally from San Jose, but now works around the bay area of San Francisco... He's like the man of the WEST COAST UNDERGROUND. The label which he owns, called "STONE THROW" has produced many artists like for instance ROB SWIFT's former album. Many people might not like the HipHop west coast sound, because of the G-style, but in the underground scene, apart from the east doing on juggling, the west coast under ground is based on scratching and cutting. It goes on real swiftly and I find the West coast underground quite enjoyable. It has nothing to do with the G thing. The songs you should check are " KEEP ON ROCKIN' IT " and "TALES OF FIVE CITIES ". The first one has the old school taste , with real shitty drums, and features CHARIZMA on MC. The second one features lot of mad DJs in the buisiness like DJ RHETTMATIC KID KOALA , ROB SWIFT A TRACK , DJ HANDS , Z TRIP , TOTAL ECLIPSE , DJ QUEST , J ROCC , SHORTKUT , CUT CHEMIST,....

ROB SWIFT, probably known as a DJ in the X-ecutioners, and this is probably his second album following the album "SOULFUL FRUITS". Well ROB SWIFT really ain't my favorite DJ or anything but this album is quite enjoyable since its really has the "AT HOME" thought of mood everywhere and the sound is quite flat.... There this part called "two turntables and a keyboard" where the session goes on between an electric piano and his turntables. This was nothing difficult but it was absolutely enjoyable. Also, there's this song called "ALL THAT SCRATCHING IS MAKING ME RICH!" where he tries out with sax, guitar, drums, and bass musicians... these instruments answer to ROB's scratches in their own ways.... and this gave me lot of inspiration and ideas.

To me, THE ROOTS is like my goal in music. This is basically what I wanna do, if we talk about HipHop!!! It's like a dream unit with everything in it, and nothing missing. It's like perfect music in everyway!!! But THE ROOTS has been left out from the scene basically till this album... Since their first album came out from TALKIN LOUD ( Like Roni Size) , only few headz in the States got interested in some HipHop unit that came out from an acid jazz label in England. And they were more accepted by the listeners in Europe and some in Japan (Like me!!). But as you can hear, Everybody could tell the difference that they are like no other fake units that exist all over the scene saying the they've got the Jazz feel and everything.... The Roots started out in Philadelphia, with a Jazz Drummer meeting a rapper. Their biggest difference from other units is that they do everything with live instruments...!!! No sampling and no DJs. Instead they have this highly talented human jukebox called Rahzel to fill in the scratch parts!!! They have 2 MCs, Keys, bass, drum, and the human jukebox that I told you about. Their talent does not end 'cause they are just playing live, but because they're playing live, in their live sets, they can cover anything from Sugar Hill Gang to Wu-Tang-Clan in one go!! That's their priority 'cause they don't need Djs to put some records that they need.... and their live sets consists of many audiences from many music listeners, like pure Jazz listeners to B-Boys to Rock Punks and many more!!!! Also the Human Juke Box, Rahzel shows his skillz in the live sets!! He can actually sing over his own drums and bass that he created only with his mouth!!!! Not just sing, but he can perfectly imitate female vocals like Aaliyah and Mary J !!!! Now this is astonishing!!! Even people who has no interest in music might get interested in the sound that he creates!!!! And also they have a wide variety of exchanges... In this album they feature Common, Mos Def, and Erykah Badu. The songs that I prefer are "DYNAMITE!" , this could be easily recognized by the native tongue sound. It's produced by Phife from ATCQ. And "DOUBLE TROUBLE" which features MOS DEF in an OLD SCHOOL style..... Mos Def is one of my favorite MCs these days....!! Also the live drum sounds really kicks in this track..!! And "You Got Me" , this features Erykah Badu, But I don't like her so much, What I like are the lyrics!!! It features this story about this girl who lived next door in the same aprtment but never met before until some trip abroad..... also the end part of this song turns into Drum'N' Bass, showing some respect for Dego from 4 HERO. If you find THE ROOTS interesting, you should check their web site.. IT'S PRETTY neat!!! You get to hear some of their live sets...!

COMPANY FLOW is quite famous, even though it's underground HipHop..... The people who listen to these music usually don't listen to PUFF DADDY, and don't listen to HOT97....(my personal guess....) INFO KILL is somewhat of a platinum single for them.. A high tone female vocal is what's it's all about, but I prefer POPULATION CONTROL... The rapper from COMPANY FLOW is called El-P, and his style is to stuff his lyrics as much as possible in one measure!! and to my surprise, his white. Must be one of the greatest white MC after MC SEARCH from THIRD BASS. And also, if somebody wanted to know, the guy who makes tracks is MR.LEN.... He's bit off...!!

It's real pitty that they're breaking apart, but this is their last album. I think that they really have cute lyrics all the time...and great tracks made by David Kennedy and Ummah(that's themselves.) This album basically has a different taste than their other albums, but I also like this kind of A TRIBE CALLED QUEST. My personal favorites are of course "Find A Way", and a track called "4 Moms" that has the soulful guitar by SPANKY who usually plays with D'Angelo. Also Noreaga is featured in the lovely track "Give Me". "The Low End Theory" is my favorite album by ATCQ. It's funny that this came out in the same year as Nirvana did, some where around 1991! My personal favorites!! "Jazz (We've Got)"!!! And "Verses From The Abstract" tha uses the Ron Carter wood bass samples.

This is like what you call@"THIS WAS MADE TO BE IN THE GRAMMY NOMINEES" thought of album, but it ain't bad..... It's actually is packed and quality is good. I wonder who's the producer of this album...... Other great things are the guests...D'Angelo and Mary.J.... My favorite songs from this album are the secret tracks, 15,16, the cover song "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" and the song with this beautiful guitar arpeggio...

MY FAVORITE GROUP! A TRIBE CALLED QUEST!!! But the bad news is, that they broke up!!! Why?!! and How??! Well I certainly hope that I could still hear more from Q-Tip!! Well about this single....... It's awesome!!! If you listen to it, you might suspect that they sampled the song "Dubnova" which is a song by TOWA TEI. At last, the age of sampling has come to an era which they sample from Japanese musicians!!!!! I like this mellowness of the A TRIBE CALLED QUEST. It's so lovely..... But on the other hand, this song has the beats seperated quite much making it sound a bit empty... It's hard to make the crowd go wild by just playing this song..... But in conclusion non problemo to me!!!!

This is one of my favorites right now!!! I think that it hasn't got on so much air play in Japan, but in the states, it's on the heavy rotation!!(or well actually , has been....). It is a concept one timer thought of single, but I like it anyway. The bass lines, it's probably played with real bass and looped, is cool!! Gives out a nice bottom end flavour.... And also, this girl, MYA, she's so cute!!! This is something that you can't resist listening to!!!!

One of my favorite female singer, Queen of HipHop and Soul, Mary J.'s tour album. It has all the good songs that Mary J.'s done all these years including hits like "Real Love", "Mary Jane", and "Everything"....etc. The great thing about this album is, it's played live. It's all live music with a live band and non-stop editing. It's something you enjoy playing it on and enjoying it till the end. My favorite songs are "Sweet Thing" and of course "Everything" which uses the "sukiyaki" track.

I'm not sure who this TEXAS is, but she seems to be a country? singer.(According to the video that I saw...) Methodman is doing the rap part of this song, and RZA made the tracks. Good song, I like the lyrics. Gotta do it sometime in LIVE!!!

Beastie Boys, back again with a NEW ALBUM!!! They were like fooling around in the first two albums, but I thought that the previous album "ill communication" was totally HipHop. Even Q-Tip from "Tribe Called Quest" was in the album. The single "Root Down" was so cool!! People should stop listening to what others say and check it yourself, Beastie Boys, ain't so bad! On this album, they do have jokes in it, or what you call "What tha FUCK is this?" thought of track, but they still brought up the flavour that they had in "ill communication", total HipHop!!! Plenty of tracks, some instrumental, all together 22 full tracks. The opening track, "SUPER DISCO BREAKIN' " is one of my favourites. The single from this album, " INTERGALACTIC ", I don't like it so much, but the end part, where the wood bass comes in, that's cool.

SILMARILS is what you call, French HipHop. Well, actually it's more like a mixture band of Red Hot Chili Peppers+Korn+Rage Against the Machine+Prodigy. Some songs are like Drum'N'Bass, but mostly it must be HipHop, since DJ Lethal(ex-House of Pain) from Limp Bizkit is producing some of the songs. Seems to be that they made a big hit in France, and some in Europe and Japan. Songs you should check are "Le Cours De L'Histoire"A"Disco"Aand "Cours Vite". But anyway, you should listen to all the songs since it's good!!!
