This resort with its southwest theme, opened in August of 1997.  This resort is being called the first moderately priced convention hotel.  It is located near MGM Studios.  Coronado Springs will have a combination of southwest and Spanish architecture.   Some may feel that the design of this resort reminds them of Spanish colonial era.

This resort has 1,967 rooms, the rooms basically have two double beds, and some come with a king size bed.  You will find that Coronado Springs Resort has 10 VIP suites, 5 Executive suites, 31 Parlor suites and 99 rooms for those with special needs.     These rooms are divided up in to three different sections:

Casitas - This section has the look of a Southwest City Hotel.
Ranchos - This section has been done with lots of sagebrush and cactus in the landscaping.
Cabanas - This is the beach side of the resort with a view of the lagoon.

All of the rooms come with a coffee maker.   Now they do have limited room service available.   Each of the sections has its own individual pool.  A wide esplanade encircles the lagoon and links all three of the areas.
Here are some things that you can expect to find at the resort.  First of all guest will be amazed at the huge Mayan pyramid that can be found towering over an elaborate pool area.  This pool area is different then most of the Disney pools.  Here you have a water slide and a playground that is also an archeological dig site for young explorers.  Kids will enjoy spending time at this pool.  Guests of this resort can also enjoy white sand beaches, three quiet pools and one large pool at the Dig Site, or even play on one of the Disneys golf courses, and dont forget about renting a watercraft for some fun on the waters.  One will find that there are a lot of things to do at this resort.  If the kids are looking for something to do they have a game room located in the main building.  For those that enjoy working out you will find a health club here along with shops, dining court, lounge, and a full serve restaurant.

They have a great variety of foods here either a full serve place or a food court.  The full serve restaurant is Maya Grill.  This lakeside restaurant is designed with high ceilings and Mayan decor.   The menu features wood fired grill prepared Mexican and Southwest cuisine.  They only serve breakfast and dinner.  They also have a Food Court called Pepper Market.  Here you will find casual meals, Mexican delicacies, fresh baked goods, international coffees, pizza, and a grill.  The lounge is Franciscos.

Before making a reservation at this resort I would ask if any conventions were taking place at the resorts convention center.   If so you may want to pick a different resort to stay at.  Remember this resort is designed for convention people to stay at.  You will also see lots families staying here.   Because of this being a moderate rate resort you will see families, but it is designed to cater to the convention people.  With the way it is designed you could request one of the buildings away from the convention center.   I personally still have mixed feelings about this resort only because of the convention center.  But they are still in the moderately priced range and they have a lot to offer families that stay.
