The movie starts with a narrator telling us the start of the story. There once was a young prince, who had everything, but he was spoilt and selfish. One day an old beggar came to his door, offering him a single rose in return for somewhere to stay for the night. The prince dismissed her, and she warned him to not be fooled by appearances, but he still dismissed her. The old beggar then turned into a beautiful enchantress, the prince tried to beg forgiveness, but the enchantress had already seen that there was no love in his heart, and placed a powerful spell on the prince and all who lived there, turning the prince into a hideous beast. The rose that she gave him was truly a magical rose, and would flower until his 21st birthday, if he could learn to love another, and she could love him in return before the last petal dropped off the rose then the spell would be broken.
The next scene is with Belle and the other villagers singing, we see that Belle is bored of living in this little town full of little people and wants more than this provincial life. We see that Belle loves books and the bookshop owner gives Belle her favourite book, but the other villagers are not as kind and they think that she is odd. Gaston, the villain of the story, sets his sights on Belle, as she is the most beautiful girl in town, and he thinks that that makes her the best and dont I deserve the best?. All the girls think that Gaston is the best thing out and swoon over him. When Gaston and Belle talk, he says that she shouldnt be reading books as it might give her strange ideas, but Belle has to rush home to help her father, and Gaston and LeFou say that he is crazy, but Belle defends him, saying that hes a genius.
When Belle returns home her father Maurice is there working on one of his inventions, it wont work, and Maurice is just about ready to give up when Belle reassures him that he can do it, and that hell win first prize at the inventions fair the next day. Maurice sets about fixing it and he manages to do it in a few minutes. He manages it well, and the invention works perfectly. Maurice heads off for the fair and Belle wishes him luck.
After a while Philippe(Belle and Maurices horse) and Maurice realise that they are lost. and they take a bad turning. Philippe gets scared and Maurice and Philippe nearly fall off the edge of a cliff. Philippe runs off leaving Maurice on the floor. Soon a scary pack of wolves set in, Maurice runs away and stumbles upon a strange a and dark castle.
When Maurice enters the castle this is when we first see Cogsworth and Lumiere. Lumiere convinces Cogsworth that they should welcome him in, and Lumiere welcomes Maurice, but Maurice is somewhat shocked, and who can blame him, how often does a candlestick and a clock talk to you??? Lumiere shows Maurice into the sitting room. A hideous beast then comes in and is furious, he tells Maurice that he is not welcome. Maurice tries to explain that he was just looking for a place to stay, and the Beast tells him Ill give you a place to stay in a very angry voice.
Then we see Gaston, he is at his wedding - but he has to ask the girl - Belle, Gaston clearly doesnt expect to be turned down! He goes into Belles house, and tells her how her dreams are about to come true, asks her in his own unique way. Belle clearly does not want to marry him and throws him out into the mud - throwing his shoes after him!!! Belle goes out to feed the animals, and Philippe comes running into the scene. This is when Belle knows something is wrong with her father. Philippe takes Belle to the castle.
Belle soon finds her father in the dungeons, soon the Beast storms in and demands to know what she is doing here. Belle tries to reason with the Beast, and agrees to swap places with her father. The Beast is not totally mean, as he allows her to have her own room, rather than staying in the dungeons. The Beast tells Belle that she can go anywhere except the West Wing, when he takes her to her room he tells her that she will join him for dinner.
Now we go back to Gaston and LeFou in the local pub. Gaston is furious and cannot believe that Belle has turned him down! LeFou sings him a song to cheer him up, after the song, Maurice comes rushing in looking for help. He tells the people that a hideous beast has got Belle, but the people think Maurice is crazy and they wont believe him. They throw him out, and Maurice says will no-one help me
The enchanted objects discuss that Belle could be the girl with the Beast and give him tips on how to impress Belle, and overall he MUST CONTROL HIS TEMPER!!! Belle refuses to come to dinner as she hates the beast for not even letting her say goodbye to her father. Lumiere tells the Beast to be a gentleman and to gently convince her to come down, but the Beast loses his temper and tells her that if she wont eat with him then she will starve.
Later on Belle comes out from her room as she is hungry. We see splendid special effects animation as Lumiere sings Be Our Guest to Belle. Afterwards Belle wants to go on a tour of the castle, and Lumiere and Cogsworth take her, but while Cogsworth is ranting on about something Belle wanders into the West Wing. She sees all the broken mirrors and the torn up pictures that are in there. She sees the magical rose, and nearly touches it, but the Beast rushes in and stops her, he is furious, Belle is extremely upset and runs out of the castle.
When Belle gets into the woods a wolf pack attacks her, and she nearly loses her life, but the Beast rushes in and saves her, the Beast collapses, and Belle takes him back to the castle. Belle manages to nurse him, but it stings the Beast and they have an argument, but all is well when Belle thanks him for saving her life.
The next thing we see is Gaston and the local asylum keeper. Gaston, as we know wants to marry bell and will do anything to get her, but Belle would do anything to stop her dad going to the asylum, Gaston pays the asylum keeper to throw Maurice in the asylum unless Belle agrees to marry Gaston. Meanwhile Maurice goes off in search of Belle.
The Beast tells the enchanted objects that hes never felt this way about someone before and he wants to do something special for her. The Beast learns that Belle likes books, so he gives her the huge library that contains thousands of books. The next day Belle and the Beast have fun in the garden feeding the birds and throwing snowballs. At the night Lumiere tells the Beast that he must be bold and daring and they get him dressed up for dancing. Then Belle and the Beast dance, in the stunning ballroom. Afterwards the Beast asks Belle whether she is happy there with the Beast, Belle tells him that she wants to see her father, and the Beast shows her his magical mirror. Belle sees her father struggling in the forest, sick, the Beast tells her that she must go to him, and sets her free. Belle thanks him for understanding and goes to find her father.

Belle finds Maurice and they return home, Belle explains to Maurice that the Beast has changed. The next thing you know the asylum keeper is at the door wanting to take Maurice away, Belle proves that he is not crazy by showing people the mirror, but Gaston is still furious that she wont marry her, and twists the story to make the Beast seem evil, and they MUST kill the Beast! The mob lock up Maurice and Belle and go to find the beast.
The enchanted objects see the invaders and go to warn the Beast, but he is so sad that Belle has gone that he doesnt care. The enchanted objects wont give up easily though and fight back, beating most of the invaders, but Gaston goes in search of the Beast. Gaston shoots an arrow at the Beast, but he wont fight because he is too sad. Belle rushes off towards the castle. When Belle arrives at the castle the Beast is willing to fight, and he captures Gaston and tells him to get out of his castle.
The Beast rushes up to Belle, and he cant believe that Belle came back. Gaston stabs the Beast in his side, but Belle manages to pull him up, whereas Gaston falls to his death. The Beast does not look like he will survive, and just as the last petal on the magic rose falls Belle says I love you to the Beast.
Suddenly the rain turns into magical glittery rain and the Beast is lifted into the air and slowly bit by bit the Beast turns into a handsome Prince. Belle is shocked and doesnt believe that its him at first, but then she looks into his eyes and exclaims It is you!
Belle and the Prince kiss, there are fireworks and the castle and all the enchanted objects and transformed. Belle and the Prince share a last dance, and Cogsworth and Lumiere have a friendly argument over who told who that they would get together.
The film ends with a stained glass window with images of Belle and the Prince on.
