| Discovery Dob-Users Group is an international group of amateur astronomers who use Dobsonian telescopes. Specifically, we are owners (or soon to be owners, or eventual owners) of the commercially made Discovery Dobsonian Reflectors. The group was formed in February 2001 and has been a strong presence in the Yahoo groups amateur astronomy lineup ever since. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Our discussions on our group range from technical (we have several avid ATM'ers on our group) to general. We also like to post observing reports. Our group area has some files where we have uploaded pictures. Pictures range from astrophotography to pictures of scope modifications to pictures of the amateur astronomers themselves. We also have a great list of links, as well as a listing of the equipment our members own. |

| One popular feature of our group is the Full Moon Chats. This arose out of a desire to learn more about optical suppliers and general astronomy. The chats are held once a month, usually the Friday closest to the Full Moon. This enables us to not have to lose a night observing :). We usually have guests and they have a lot of fun dispensing information to our group. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| We are hoping that Yahoo will eventually expand their features on their groups pages. Right now all they offer is some file space, a JAVA chat applet and the ability to post messages via web or email. I am personally hoping that they add features to the chat that will enable us to log our chats so we have them for posterity. I have moved our club website over to Yahoo Geocities. I plan on adding more and making a link and banner available to those who want to add it to their own home pages. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Greetings, group. You are probably wondering who the woman with the Big Dob is. I've been involved in the field of astronomy for about seven years. In that time I served as both a board member for my local astronomy club as well as a year as president. I have volunteered as a Project Nova Astronomer and have written several articles, including the article "Reenergize your Amateur Astronomy Club" (Astronomy Magazine - July 2000) and have also interviewed such luminaries as Carol Shoemaker and David Levy. On the internet, I moderated the Space Exploration area on Prodigy for two years and I also ran the chats there and for the astronomy area. I have been actively involved in moderating groups and developing online bulletin boards ever since, usually the subject matter involves astronomy, space, and space shuttles:). I am proud of our Discovery Dob Users, a great group of people from all walks of life and many countries. I hope you enjoy our group. It's a personal favorite. Thanks for reading... Penny. Richard Dodson, co-moderates our Yahoo group. Rich has been interested in astronomy since before he could remember, his first astro book being "Golden Guide to the Stars" and his first real scope being an Edmund 3" inch reflector. Since then he has slowly made his way up the aperture fever wagon and now owns a 15 inch Discovery TD. He belongs to the Astronomical Society of the Pacific and also is a member of the International Dark Sky Association . He is a great contributor to the group, and am I proud to co-moderator with him.
