Whiskey Was My First
By Adam Stemple

As I went out one evening, despite my love's protest
I came upon a tevern where I thought I'd take my rest
I Had a drink or 2 or 3, perhaps it could be more
And these words I said to my love when she met me at the door;

Chorus:
You may be my true love, but whiskey was my first
And if you leave me I may die, but it won't be of thirst
So will you treat me kindly or go on and do your worst
You'll always be my true love, but whiskey was my first

And then one day I met a girl whose hair was ruby red
We spent the whole day sober, but ended up in bed
Then I went back home and to my love I confessed my dreadful sin
She said "You're lying I know you well, you've been at the pub again!"

Chorus

My love is full of sorrow, my love is full of pain
My love is full of anger and she holds me in disdain
But if she would only understand, if she would only think
My heart I give her freely and the rest of me's for drink.

Repeat Chorus several times
