| Here in Minnesota, at a high school that neighbors my hometown, there is an uproar about a young man who wore a T-shirt to school which said "Straight Pride." He was told to remove the shirt, then told to leave when he wouldn't take it off. He has sued the school for violating his civil rights. I have one thing to say. We're happy for ya (c. Common Man). Now Woodbury High School has had its problems this year. A few months ago two kids went to the hospital after a fight stemming from one of the idiots wearing a Confederate flag headband. Now, someone wears a straight pride T-shirt. The school has every right to have a dress code. I've said before and I'll say again (Right now in fact), these types of restrictions only make kids angry and more likely to open fire on their classmates and teachers, but schools can have a dress code if they want. My question is; Would a student in a Gay Pride T-shirt be sent home as well? If so, I guess it's allright. As long as anyone wearing an "I love God" or "Go Vikings" T-shirt was sent home as well. Any statement has the possibility of offending someone. No one should live their life scared of offending somebody. If you did, you would be unable to speak. And I'm sure that would be found offensive as well. Since when does pride equate to hating others? I suppose "White Pride" has become synonomous with anti- every other race, but that is one well ingrained belief in society. It is well known that I can not be proud of being white. I'm not proud of being white, but that is because I have no reason to be proud of something I had no part of doing. I'm not proud to be American, straight, white, male, or human for that matter, because I did nothing to be proud of in these cases. I am proud to be a college student with a decent GPA. I am proud to have been a Governor's Scholar. I am proud of this web page (somewhat, it could be so much more...). I am proud that I don't own any Limp Bizkit albums. Basically, why anyone is proud of something they didn't achieve, but were given, is beyond my ken. However, if someone wants to be proud of something over which they had no control, that is fine. They should be allowed to be proud without people thinking they hate people who aren't what the individual is proud of. I am proud to be in college- I don't hate those who aren't in college. I don't hate those without web pages. I do hate people who buy Limp Bizkit albums, but that is another story entirely. Mr. "Straight Pride" doesn't hate gays. He has said so. Had he worn an "I Hate Fags" T-shirt, I would understand much more the school's decision to remove him from the school. He has the right to wear such a shirt, but it would certainly be a distraction in school. It seems that we are only allowed free speech if we say what people want to hear. I am starting to reconsider calling myself a liberal. I do not stand for the ideals that modern liberalism espouses. I am for freedom. Modern liberals are not. They are for drugs but against smoking. They are for gun control, but against allowing the police to do their jobs. They are for free speech, unless it is something with which they don't agree. They want to free people who kill police officers because they are good community people. This is not what I stand for. Modern liberalism has become a PC nightmare of which I will not be a part. I am saddened that I can't associate myself with this group anymore. I sure as hell am not becoming a conservative. I am left without a group for myself. I know that the old-time liberals agree with me. Liberalism is about fighting for the poor, the downtrodden, the oppressed. It is not about taking rights from those who have them, but giving rights to those who don't. I am now a man with a cause. I need to teach others that PC is not the way to go. We need to allow people to accept differences without embracing them. I am, of course, inconsistant with my beliefs, but this is because I am human, and I don't have all of the answers. Only most of them. :) I'm Ken Feucht, and I feel lonely right now. And I'm proud of that. |
