The Golden Apple
A Story
Once upon a time, Zeus had a dinner, and invited all of the gods.  Except Eris.  As she was the goddess of Discord, Zeus felt that she would not be a wise addition to the dinner party.  Well, Eris took exception to this (Forever remebered as the original snub), and decided to play a game.  She threw an apple made of gold (Although this is disputed- some think it was simply a yellow apple) with the word "Kallisti", Greek for "To the most Beautiful" into the dining hall.  Well, goddesses being vain creatures by nature, each decided it was for them.  Hera, Aphrodite, and Athena (Artemis being on a hunt, and thus not present) each claimed the apple.  Before a world ending battle could begin, Zeus, in His wisdom, called upon a shepherd, unfortunately named Paris (His parents concieved him in France) to settle the dispute.  A simple task.  Simply decide which goddess was the most beautiful.  Well, the goddesses, being a scheming lot, each bribed Paris with a gift (The basis for our court system, even today).  Hera offered him great power, Athena, all of the wisdom of the world, and Aphrodite, the most beautiful woman in the world, all if he would only pick them.  Paris, being a shepherd, made the obvious decision.  He awarded Aphrodite the apple, thinking he would get her in return.  Not quite.  Aphrodite instead gave him one Helen of Troy, who was a very comely lass.  Unfortunately, the Goddess didn't think to clear this with Helen's husband, and a pesky little war ensued, costing many lives, and inventing a cool horse.
When choosing a religion, one must always consider the mythology, for therein are found the true meaning of salvation.  Then, one must consider the tenants of faith, for there is found the restriction of salvation.  But never, ever, forget the fun factor.
