The prime-directive of Discordianism is to resist authority. It follows then that the authority of a higher power and religion in general is to be undermined. The undermining of religion is in fact one of Discordianism's main objectives. Discordians see those who follow any particular religion as sheeps; people who mindlessly adhere to rules out of fear and self-delusion. They see it as their duty to disrupt the faith of others using any method necessary. Only when a person's faith is broken and hope is lost are they considered 'liberated.' The irony here is that they follow the rules of their own religion to a high degree. They claim, however, that they are simply 'role-playing' and not really adhering to the dogma of their own system, but the fact remains that they commit the actions required, no matter how they rationalize it. Discordianism stems from the most diabolical form of Bhuddhism. Any religion can be distorted to fit the purposes of deviant practicioners, and whithin Buddhism there exists a radical zen tradition. This tradition has manifested in western civilization as Discordiansim. The goal in this tradition is to become you own god, and the undermining of established religion becomes mandatory. It follows that they preach a 'relativistic' morality. Any action, no matter how deviant, becomes ok if it's in the right 'context.' It also follows that they have the justification to perform any hainous act that perpetuates their own agenda, because the context is right... |
