Album discography |

In person at P.J.'s (1965) - Their debut album, and a rather mediocre affair. Mostly throwaway collage-rock cover version inc. Bony Moronie and Louie Louie. Not bad songs actually, but miles away from what they'd do later. |

Dirty water (1966) - Their first collaboration with Ed Cobb, this album included the hit title track, along with the classic Try it and a collection of other gems, both originals and covers. Raunchy 60's garage rock at its very finest |

Why pick on me/Sometimes good guys dont wear white (1966) - Named after the two singles pulled from this album, it was a strong follow-up from Dirty water, but for some reasons still failed to reach the charts. Strongest moments are without doubt the Cobb-penned Have you ever spent the night in jail, and the two title tracks |

Hot ones (1966) - Mostly a collection of cover songs, from artists as diverse as Troggs (Wild thing), Monkees (Last train to Clarksville), Beatles (Eleanor Rigby) and Donovan (Sunshine superman) + more |

Try it (1968) - Their last album, this contained possibly their best moment ever, the single Try it which after being banned by most radio stations because of it's suggestive lyrics failed to chart. Later re-releases also include their last single Animal girl. |

Best of (1982) - A truly great compilation gathering all their classic songs along with some other often overlooked tracks. Gritty garage psych at its very best, this is an absolute must for any serious fan of 60's garage music or the Nuggets series. This was my first introduction to The Standells, and is still one of my favorite albums. |

Riot on Sunset Strip/Rarities (1993) - The soundtrack from Riot on Sunset Strip plus a whole bunch of Standells rarities. Although this is not quite a Standells album as it features a handful of tracks by other bands, most of the tracks are Standells. One of very few soundtrack albums from the 60's that really captures that era. |

Ban this - Live from Cavestomp (2000) - A live album from a re-unioned Standells this CD simply kicks ass. Although Dick Dodd's voice may have changed a bit, the rest of the band race through all the old hits like it's still 1966. Well worth checking out. |

Dirty water / Why pick on me - Sometimes good guys... (2002) - Their second and third album together on one CD. This CD really has all their best moments, apart from Try it and since both albums seem to be out of print these days, seems to be a pretty good investment for anyone interested in this band. |

Very best of (1998) - Not as good as the 1982 Best of on Rhino, this is still a pretty good compilation, and worth having for Tom Moulton's stereo remix of Dirty water alone. |

Hot hits and hot ones - Is this the way that you get (2002) - A 21 track compilation, this features pretty much the same songs as Best of with some neat additions (their cover of 19th nervous breakdown) although the liner notes are not quite as informative. Still a very good compilation. |
