"Awit ng Papuri": launching...
After more than two years of preparation for the Liturgy of the Hours in Pilipino, aptly named "Awit ng Papuri: Panalangin ng mga Kristiyano sa Maghapon",
the project was formally and successfully launched on 30 August 2002 - the 42nd anniversary of the definitive approval of our Congregation's Constitutions,
and the 46th year of presence of the Pious Disciples in the Philippine soil (25 August).
An afternoon permeated by the Lord's gentle and quiet presence was what prevailed throughout the entire launching celebration. Highlighted by a taste of Vespers
in Pilipino presided by Most Rev. Rolando Tirona, OCD, DD plus the brief and clear explanation about the Liturgy of the Hours by Rev. Anscar Chupungco, OSB, the event
was well-attended and participated in by the priests, seminarians, religious and lay faithful of the different dioceses in Luzon (the Manila Metropolitan Cathedral was full!).
The faithful's (both lay, clergy and religious) presence then was not only a manifestation of support in the efforts of the Archdiocese' toward genuine liturgical renewal.
Moreso, the full-packed church has shown the Filipinos' love and unceasing thirst for God in prayer. The solemn Vespers in Pilipino was a truly beautiful experience of an
inculturated way of praying and of prayer.
What God Himself has started, He never fails to bring to completion, to fruition! With so much time, plentiful resources and energy spent for the realization of the "Awit ng Papuri"
project, we can only marvel at the graciousness of God who never ceases to bless our humble efforts, and, who continually assures each and everyone with His words: "I am with you always"
(cf: Mt. 28:20)
Casting anew our nets into the deep, we courageously and generously strain onwards to fulfill our PDDM mandate and mission in this part of immense Asia.
Rome, 30 August 2002
My heart is steadfast, God. I will sing and I will make music with my soul. Psalm 108:1
To Dearest Sisters
You have done what the Lord wanted you to do: make music in your soul for the glory of His name and for the consolation of His loved ones, in the evry day of anyone's life... all these
in prayer with the Church! Heartiest, Soulful CONGRATULATIONS! (how was it yesterday at the cathedral?)
Sr. M. Necitas is now working at the Liturgy Commission where Sr. M. Paola also works. The former for the liturgical needs of the English speaking groups.
In this way, we are serving both the Chinese residents and the multitudes of migrants in this cosmopolitan city.
In Taiwan, Sr. Ma. Anna has started to work in a parish after finishing a 2- year course on Pastoral Liturgy in Fons Vitae.
This will also be her practicum to complete the requirement for a certificate in pastoral and catechetical work in the diocese.
Our mission in Hong Kong and Taiwan may make us feel like St. Paul when he said, "I make myself all things to all people" (1 Cor. 9,22)
The Perpetual Profession of Sr. M. Catherine is on September 7, 2002. The place and other details will be made known later, perhaps when the invitation cards will be ready. Sr. M. Beatrice, on the other hand, is going for a year long leave of absence. We recognize her expressed need and we assure her of our support and understanding. Sr. M. Adelle is also on leave (three months), to assist her ageing mother who finds herself all alone at home. There are also some of us who are bound by charity to attend to the needs of our ageing and ill parents, although, only on occasional visits. Let us remember each other in our prayers before the Eucharistic Lord and let us entrust to him our natural families, our parents, especially the sick and the elderly.
The Liturgical Seminar/Exhibit from October 3 - 6 in Hong Kong. Srs. M. Michelangela, M. Angelica and M. Paola are among the speakers in the seminar. The Ballan sisters are coming to Hkg. The circumscriptions of India, Japan and Korea are joining us in Hong Kong for these activities.
There is also the Special Times for Ongoing Formation this year. For the fifth year after Perpetual Profession, we have Srs. M. Andrew, M. Magdalene, M. Aida and M. Paola. For the 10th year after Perpetual Profession, Srs. M. Leonila, M. Sonia, Ma. Anna and M. Carmela.
In December, we will have the joy of celebrating the 25th anniversary of our sisters: Srs. M. Mercedes, M. Angeles, M. Grace, M. Vincent, M. Fidelis, M. Ann, M. Gabriella, M. Necitas, and M. Clelia.
Meanwhile, let us praise and thank the Lord for the 46 years of our foundation in the Philippines. We have a reason to celebrate August 25 even as we look forward to the 50th anniversary 4 years after.
