"Man does not live by bread alone."

-Gospel

No man will admit that he can live by material goods alone. Not even the atheist, if there is any. Music, the arts, though sensible, do appeal to man's instincts higher than food and drink. By what then does man live? The gospel says "he lives by every word that comes from the mouth of God." And what exactly does this mean? It means that man has to be redefined as simply a hearer and a doer of God's word, for that's what distinguishes him from the stone, the flower, the amoeba and the planet Mars.

Lord, by listening to you I am connected. Like an electrical appliance I come alive, "on-lne." Your word guides me, unites me to you, gives sense to my existence.
