Present weather conditions in
Barcelona
Barcelona has a rich tapestry
of Roman and Gothic architecture much of which is to
be found in the Barri Gòtic area located a few
minutes walk away from the Plaça Catalunya and
accessible by Metro, local buses and taxis.
Tours
take in the interesting Plaça Nova a former market
place that features many antique markets and public
events such as concerts and religeous festivals. On
most Sundays the visitor will see local people dancing
the Sardana, a traditional Catalan dance signifying
unity, you are most welcome to join in as the steps
are relatively simple to follow and learn. Surrounding
the boundaries of this square lie many features of interest
to the visitor including two large Roman
Towers the Cathedral
and what is reputed to be the largest outdoor work of
Picasso.
Many
hidden gems are to be found nestling in dark corners
and behind large wooden doorways that lead into Gothic
courtyards. Your guide will safely lead you in and around
the nooks and crannies of the Gothic Quarter where you
will see such amazing sights such as the Roman
Augustus Columns. Towering majestically at the
top of a small rise in the centre of the Gothic Quarter
these superb examples of Roman architecture are easily
missed if you are not escorted by a knowledgeable guide.
As
with most historical cities of the world Barcelona has
a large number of Churches and the Iglesia
de Santa Agata is a fine example. As part of
your exploration of this part of the city your guide
will explain the significance of Catalan Gothic design
to you and may use this church as an example. Situated
alongside the Royal Palace
this immense building is perched on top of the original
Roman fortifications dating back to circa 280AD.
Barcelona
has a long and not always harmonious relationship with
those of the Jewish faith yet situated in El
Calls, the Jewish Quarter, there is the oldest
Synagogue in Barcelona , indeed
within Europe. This area of the tour takes you into
some of the narrowest streets within the City, many
of which are less than 10 feet or 3 metres wide. As
these streets twist and wind it is easy to become disorientated
however in the safe hands of our guide you will simply
have time to enjoy all that we have to offer in this
wonderful and historical part of the City.
Tour Time 3 to 4 hours
An extended tour may be booked to
include Tapas and visits to other areas of interest
within the Roman and Gothic part of the City.

Antoni
Gaudi is one of the most celebrated architects in Barcelonas
history. Probably the most sought after photograph opportunity
by the visitor to Barcelona is that of recording the
majesty and diversity of The Temple
of La Sagrada Familia.
As you tour around this magnificent,
majestic and oft controversial building your guide will
explain all the key points regarding its construction.
Without doubt you will be astonished by the magnitude
of this future place of worship, the range and complexity
of the sculptures and the vastly differing nature of
the façades.
During
this tour we approach La Sagrada Familia on foot or
by Metro. When proceeded by Park
Güell transfer is by taxi unless a tour
vehicle has been previously booked. There is an opportunity
at this site for a little shopping and to try local
tapas or to refresh oneself with a drink from the many
cafes.
Approached
by Metro or local Barrio Bus unless a tour vehicle has
previously been booked is the unusual Park
Güell so named after Antoni Gaudi's benefactor
Eusebi Güell who envisaged a rather upmarket housing
complex away from the hustle and bustle of the City
centre.
Your guide will lead the way as you
pass down into the park and receive your first glimpse
of the fairytale world of Park Güell. From the
rooftop plaça with its serpentine benches to
the coolness of the stone walkways with their twisted
columns you can be assured of a surprise around every
corner. The lower level of the Park brings yet more
suprises as you encounter startling trencadis (tiling)
and the famous and much photographed Dragon plus
upon leaving the Park you pass between the famous Ginger
Bread Houses of Hansel and Gretel.
Casa
Milà is more commonly known in Barcelona as
La Pedrera or
the stone quarry and is another example of the originality
and genius of Antoni Gaudi. Built during the expansion of Barcelona
the work was entrusted to Gaudi following his triumphant
completion of Casa Batllo
(not shown) in what is now called the Block of Discord.
Tour Time 3
to 4 hours
