RALLY- Thursday,
October 20th from 5:00-7:00pm
On the sidewalk at
the corner of Princess Anne Rd. and Damneck Rd.
by Princess Anne
Park and Landstown High School
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Purpose of the Demonstration-Rally: To promote equal opportunity to be able to enjoy concerts like everybody else “under the stars” on the lawn at the Virginia Beach Amphitheater. Currently only the fixed seat areas are accessible while there are steps and other grade barriers to getting onto the lawn. People who use wheelchairs, walkers or have other mobility limitations have a right to choose to sit on the lawn with everyone else. We will no longer tolerate segregated seating choices based on disability.
Rally - YEA Group and Virginia Beach Amphitheater
We don’t want to go back in history like Rosa Parks and be limited in our access to public areas, treated as second or third class citizens. As Justin Dart, Jr., Father of the Americans with Disabilities Act once stated:
“…let us go forward, in the spirit of Ghandi and Martin Luther King, with
love, with reasoned truth, with unyielding insistence on respect… Let us speak
with one thundering voice. We are
Americans. We will be united for
however long it takes to achieve the same rights that other Americans have. . . we have a right to use public places. We are American citizens and we will be part
of the American dream. Equality NOW!”
Please join members of the Y.E.A. group to demonstrate a strong and united voice to bring equal access to the lawn seating at the Virginia Beach Amphitheater.
Sincerely,
Y.E.A. group members
