Willie's Revelation
We had a wonderful friend in Willy, our family Golden Retriever. Everyone thought him stupid, but on reflection, it was the other way around. He knew how to manipulate us,  get food, walkies, in fact, anything he wanted, whether it was good for him or not.
Another Christmas had  arrived, and by this time we had Ben, who was an adept scribbler, no words, but what a scribbler. Father Christmas had been, and Ben with his new scribbling book  and bright green wax crayons, the size of candles was in his element.  Willy, always on the lookout for something to eat cast an envious eye on the box of crayons, and noticing this, our ever alert Earsy thought he would let Willy try just one. Willy approved, and soon  the remainder of the box were warming up in his tummy,
Eventually it came time for Willy's walkies, so with his Christmas present of a crimson doggy coat with a mock fur collar he really looked the proverbial " dogs bollocks".  It had been snowing, and the Common was well covered, a splendid canvas for Willy's latest trick.  The wax crayons had melted and merged well with the other stomach contents . Suddenly Willy squatted, it was too late to drag him into the bushes, and anyway, who would wish to deprive the other villagers of the sight of luminous green motions on a bed of virgin snow, on Christmas Day.
It was only on returning home, with Ben wanting his crayons, that we began to put
two and two together, the answer being as usual, Earsy.
