NYSWF Under Pressure: Tony sits down with Corey Collins
By ToNy Cellupica
Recently, I had the oppurtunity to sit down with NYSWF
President, Corey Collins and get his view on many
things, wrestlers, owners of other federations, his
thoughts on other federations in thsi circuit, and the
upcoming NYSWF Supercard, revelations. So, I hope you
enjoy the interview..And there are many more to
come.
ToNy C: Mr. Collins, In one word describe how
you feel about the NYSWF's current state.
Corey Collins: I don't think just one word is
possible. With all that's going on lately, the only
way to describe the NYSWF is, quite simply, it's never
been better.
TC: Who do you feel the NYSWF's top wrestler
is, and why?
CC: The top wrestler in the NYSWF... I would
have to call it a stand-still between three guys -
Loco Martinez, Sean Boden, and Spiral. These guys are
veterans, but they're young. Whether or not I like
them personally doesn't matter, because with any of
these guys around, something big is going to happen.
TC:Who do you feel is the NYSWF's most
under-rated wrestler?
CC:I would have to say Jonathan Storm. He's
had a bit of a rocky past, and people may not take him
seriously. The truth of the matter is, though, that
Jon has what it takes to be one of the biggest dogs in
the NYSWF, if not all of the wrestling world.
TC: What are your feelings about the other two
Federation's in this circuit, the EWA and the NPWA?
CC: Who? *chuckle* Seriously, though. I
don't have any feelings towards them. The management
of the NPWA doesn't get involved with the NYSWF, and
that's what I like. The EWA's management, on the
other hand? I think we all know where that route
would take us. EWA's Duane Gates can't keep his eyes
off of the NYSWF for some reason or another. Maybe
he's trying to get ideas from me to make his shows a
little more exciting.. who knows? But my feelings
towards the other feds... I really don't have any. I
don't check out the other feds, I don't watch their
shows, and I don't try and steal their talent. Maybe
that's why I've been so successful with the NYSWF -
because I run my own fed, instead of getting involved
in everyone else's.
TC: I am going to name a person, and I want
you to tell me the first thing that pops in your had
when you hear their name.
TC: Kevin Rampage
CC: A man that, if he gets his wits about him
and focuses, he can take the world by storm.
TC: Jason Phoenix
CC: A youngster with a lot of potential - he
just needs to find out how to use it, and I'm not so
sure he's done that yet.
TC: Your brother, NOTHING
CC: *chuckle* Well, what can I say? As a
brother, he can be one of the biggest assholes we'll
ever see. As a wrestler? One of the world's best, if
he gets that fire lit underneath him.
TC: Academy Commissioner, ToNy Bondaga
CC: Tony, Tony, Tony... I don't like Tony.
The only reason I keep him around is so I don't have
to meddle with the Academy. But since I've stopped
showing up there, the ratings have dropped.
Coincidence? I think not.
TC: Execution
CC: He's in the same boat as Phoenix. He's
had trouble in the past, but he's got potential.
Getting away from the Fellowship was the first step,
but now he needs to get the spotlight on himself.
TC: Smirt Dogg
CC: Pathetic. Over-rated. Ego-maniac. And,
isn't he dead?
TC: That's what I thought, but I just read an
interview on the Dirtsheet involving him, to say the
least..I was shocked.
CC: Disappointed would be a better word.
TC: Last one..Loco Martinez
CC: Loco Martinez... *smirk* I don't like
Loco Martinez, as a person. He's screwed up so much
of what I've tried to do in the past weeks, and now
he's going to have to pay for the damage he's done.
Not only does he have myself, Scott Baio, The NES
Pros, and The Angst Brigade looming in the background
- but he's got to deal with Retribution.
However.... when I look at Loco Martinez in the ring,
and in his promos, I see the next big star in the
NYSWF, and the world over. I know I've said that
before about others, but this is a little different.
I don't see Loco becoming a star two months down the
road. Loco Martinez is innovative, and he's fresh.
More importantly, he knows how to get under someone's
skin.
Add to that A+ wrestling skills, and you've got the
man that, whether I like it or not, is going to lead
the NYSWF into one of the strangest summers we have
EVER seen.
But I still hate him.
TC: Two more questions about this weekends
supercard, and then I'll let you go. Firstly, Who do
you feel will be the World Champion after Up All
Night?
CC: I don't think The Krow wants it bad
enough to take the World Title from The Dark Messiah.
Messiah surprised a lot of people and pulled off what
looked like an upset in most people's minds when he
beat Virus last week. If he keeps that up, I don't
see him dropping that belt for a long while.
TC: And, the last question..Who do you feel
will come out with the Tag straps after SNH is off the
air?
CC: I don't think there is anyone on the
planet that can stop The Underground Evolution.
Although both teams in this match are sad comparisons
to their original formations, it contains all of the
combustable elements. Rune and Azazel's crumbling
friendship coupled with their respective new team
mates, Virus and Sigel Phoenix were enough - but when
you put that in a Hellfire Death Match, you've got
problems. Virus and Rune are just that much more
sick, though, and I see them keeping the titles, and
perhaps ending the careers of The Wanderers.
TC: Thank you for letting me conduct this
interview with you Mr. Collins, good luck with the
supercard this weekend.
CC: Thank you... and trust me - the pleasure
was all your's.
