Sentilating Synopsis

By Terrance McPhilly

Once again, a late Sentilating Synopsis, I'll do my best to make sure this isn't a regular occurrence, and try and keep to my deadlines, either way, there's a lot of ground to cover this week, and a very interesting topic to be discussed. Not to mention, one of the quickest rising main-eventers, perhaps in the history of our circuit, and this weeks, wrestler of the week. All that to detail, but first, I believe the topic of the hour is in regards to what the modern day fan wants from this sport.

In recent years, the more avid fan, or mark if you prefer, has been into the more aggressive, and sexual style of wrestling. For example, Angela Chang and DEVine Entertainment have promised the modern day fan these two major contributing factors. We can see the sex is already surfacing, with Haywood Jublome and Christina Knight in the backstage area, and the relationship between Ray Willmott and Angela Chang seemingly growing every week. The violence side of things, has certainly taken off, in the four-five weeks the NPWA has been open, we've seen baseball bat matches, Explosives matches, sledgehammer matches, steel cage matches, not to mention the kind of stipulation matches being thrown about for DEVine Intervention! Thus, the ratings of the NPWA and the shows themselves, seem to get a lot better, as the weeks progress, and we can expect to see a lot more, from the PPV and of course, the aftermath. The question I pose to you, is are modern day fans expecting too much?

I was actually on hand, and in attendance at Sabotage last night, and I witnessed, two of the most grueling, sickening displays I've ever seen in wrestling, the match that Bazooka Joe and Ray Willmott put on, had me cringing, and as much as I hate Willmott as a character, you couldn't help but sympathize with him, after the hell Joe put him through in that cage! Not to mention the match directly after that, a C4 explosives match, I mean for the love of God, it just doesn't get much sicker than that. Not to mention the stellar performances put out by two of this circuits legends, Haywood Jublome and Smirtdogg, a classic match, and to say the least, it was violent. Not to detract from Ray Willmott and Smirtdogg respectively, but the results of these matches are irrelevant, as all four men, showed that they can get it on, that they can be sick, perverse and twisted, and put out a match that will entertain and perplex this modern age of fan. However, I tend to find these matches, although very nerve-racking and entertaining, less fun to watch than some of the old school wrestling I have at home. The closest we've had to that as of late, was the submission spectacular between Venom and Michael Draven for the TV title a couple of weeks back, but since that time, we've seen these brutal fests, and outbursts of vulgarity, and violence. My, haven't times changed...

I remember the legends like Thorne Richards, who would give us classic encounters, that didn't revolve around weaponry, or gutting the other participant. Those matches are so infrequent now, it's truly a sad sight, now we live in a World of Hellfire Death Matches, and Gangster Paradise matches...and although these matches are great, you can't help but feel we neglect the older side of wrestling, and how this sport used to be. Certainly a topic of interest, and I can attest to the fact, that I do miss the wrestling of old from 1997, although, I am still very much a fan of the modern day style also. Either way, it goes to show, that the genre that wrestling used to come under, is nowhere the same as it is today, in fact, you could go as far as to say, they are now two completely different sports. These are views shared by myself, and expressed by myself, and nobody else.

Now then, some interesting developments have transpired this past week, including the big shock around the NPWA at the top of the week of suspected foul play, which almost lead, to DFR member, 'Pure Sickness' Ray Willmott, walking out of the company! Thankfully, the situation was rectified and promptly buried, a situation of course, surrounding the Television title debacle that occurred on Malice last week, in an awesome sledgehammer match, which Draven subsequently won. As I said earlier, the situation is now a figment of the past, and the company is still going along strongly, but that was certainly a test to see how tight the federation truly is right now, which it promptly - survived. Not to mention, in the EWA, Raven's World championship victory over Harding Cash, in a match, that was filled with some strange occurrences, the alliance between Daniels and Cash, seems to have been promptly broken, and this whole Daniels/Raven/Electra situation, well I mean it's one of the most bizarre angles I've ever seen, but I can't wait to see how it all pans out. However, surprisingly enough, the big story is coming from the NYSWF this week, it's been the bitch-child of abuse as of late, but apparently, that is all slated to change after Up All Night and Sunday Night Heat's rendition of Retribution this coming weekend. The reason this Synopsis is late, is that I myself, Terrance McPhilly, had a long and detailed phone conversation with Corey Collins, in the strictest of confidence, and he told me, that everybody that has been dissing the NYSWF and doing everything to bring it into the dirt, after this weekend will be..."BEGGING" for forgiveness. Now, with a claim like that, how can you fail to not speculate and ponder as to what this mastermind has up his sleeve, could we be seeing a surprise #1 contender tie it up with Messiah for the belt, or perhaps Loco Martinez, will finally get the shot he deserves. Maybe, there'll be a few more celebrities to add alongside Scott Baio, or maybe, he's enlisted some top name talent back into the federation, or people we haven't seen in the longest of hours. Rumors abound that Collins actually contacted Dredd to re-appear, whether or not these are true is a different story, but you can see what I mean about excitement on the horizon. For those who've counted the federation out, this reporter feels, you'll be finding egg on your face after June 24th! I've even heard shocking rumors that Gates and Collins were rumored to have a sit-down, closed door discussion, but really, that has to be a rumor, those two gentlemen, have about as much chance of getting along as fire and water. The rubbish this reporter hears, completely astounds me! However, a subject I've yet to mention is that of the tag tournament, my pick for the tournament, to be real honest folks, I couldn't say, there are so many top teams in there, I really wouldn't have a clue who to place money on, and the shock of the century, coming from Ray Willmott, that sick bastard smashing the sledgehammer into his own brother, and bringing Chip Masters back into the ring! The American Bastards certainly played a master minded game, but will this help their chances of success, both very talented athletes, but as I said earlier, the talent in this tournament couldn't get much better than it already is. Something's got to give folks, and I can't wait to see the final result of this one...

...Which brings us to this weeks wrestler of the hour! To some extent, I don't believe the addition of this segment does justice to everybody in this circuit, everybody is so talented, and so capable, that each individual does something which constitutes for this award, and I do mean everybody. You've got workers out there, that are dedicated, entertaining, fun to watch, and are as close of a family as you'll ever see. People like Sean Boden, Evan Douglas and Venom have all constituted for these awards, simply because each one has done something, just that little bit more groundbreaking than their counterparts. With that being said, the award this week may surprise you, but it shouldn't really! The award, in my opinion should be bestowed upon Michael Draven this week!

One word sums up the younger Draven, change, and for the better at that. We've always known Mike's had the talent to be special, he's done some incredible things in his career, he owns a victory over Haywood Jublome back in the NYSWF, not to mention a close series between he and Alexander Haven, and of course, the sickening feud that's still going strong between he and Ray Willmott! Draven's accomplishments throughout his career, are without question something to be marveled at, and yet, we've seen Draven in a slight slump, that is, until this point. Michael's game has risen 20 notches, he's become a successful TV champion, he's been hanging with the best of the best, and he's become one of the prime faces in the NPWA. Draven has picked his game up so much, and has also received a lot of backstage props, and praise for his accomplishments lately, to deny this man the award this week, would be a crying shame, after winning that war with Willmott emphatically last week, then having to fight the prospering Sean Boden, who seems to get better every week. Not to mention the daunting task, of fighting Haywood Jublome at DEVine Intervention, and it's easy to say, Draven's plate is full lately. However, he's doing a great job of taking it a step at a time, and for that, you can't fail but to praise this young man, who still has many years ahead of him. A well deserved award then for Michael Draven, who becomes the fourth honorary wrestler to receive the infamous award.

That takes us to another awesome week of Television this week, kicking off with Wednesday War over at the EWA, when Raven and Sean Boden lock it up, non-title style, heading straight into the NYSWF Retribution, which apparently has some huge surprises in store for us this weekend, and not to mention DEVine Intervention, the first NPWA PPV, which is headlined by Grady Smith defending against the winner of Erik Draven/Marcus Hailey, with a strong under card with matches like Kanyon and Venom for the US title in a cage, Haywood Jublome and Michael Draven, which currently is for the TV title, and the recently announced, Ray Willmott, Bazooka Joe, Jack Daniels three way, which apparently is being converted into a four corners match, with a guest referee!? We know the heat between Willmott and this new faction, and it'll be interesting to see who these two new wildcards are, should they surface. Either way, this is a huge week for wrestling this week, with four blockbuster events, that look set to come off the charts, and be pumped to death in a huge Sentilating Synopsis next week. Thanks once again for reading, you know where to send any rumors or gossip you've heard, and with that, I shall see you after this weeks events.
