Sentilating Synopsis
By Terrance McPhilly
Well yet again, another awesome week here within our little circle of wrestling I mean, we've seen it all. I'm sorry that this edition of the Synopsis is late, I had to go out of town on some important business in relation to wrestling, which I'll come back to shortly. What came of that interview, may just shock you! In the meanwhile, on with the show as they say, and man do we have a lot to discuss...
...Firstly though, I believe that a sensible solution would be for me to leave the running down of cards to the other columnists, as it seems I'm always late, and I'm always telling you things, you already know, and seeing as this is my job, it's my job to investigate. Therefore, this edition and future editions of the Synopsis will be slightly different, in that I will raise an issue that has boggled me, and of course, the now infamous, wrestler of the week slot at the conclusion. In any event, this week, I'm going to touch on a subject that seems to have a lot of people speculating and a lot of people talking, and that would be the future of this sport...
People are constantly asking me, "Terrance -- who do you believe is the next big attraction in our business"..."McPhilly, are you convinced that Kanyon, Smirtdogg, Grady Smith, 'Cold' Harding Cash, Erik Draven, Haywood Jublome, Jack Daniels and Venom should hang up their boots and leave the sport...". In my opinion, no way in hell should they, what I've just announced to you are eight names that have been the names in this sport for the past 2-3 years. These men set the stones for all these upshot rookies and players to walk on, these eight men are living proof of what this sport is about, endurance, heart and soul. Now three of those men are prominent members of Dark Force Rising, the other two of course being, certainly in my view, the future of this sport, Marcus Hailey and the incomparable Ray Willmott. Grady Smith's NPWA World title reign isn't met without doubt, speculation and question, but in my mind, not only is Grady at the defining moment of his career, but he's surpassing everybody that's held that championship thus far. So what Grady Smith is almost 30 years old, that's not exactly cause for people to break out a retirement speech for the man, I mean for Christ's sake, the man has just entered his prime, yet you get these rookies, spewing a bunch of crap about something they neither understand nor should! Fair enough, you have guys like Shane Carter, DJ Deadly, Dark Messiah, Loco Martinez, Nightmare, Krow, Angel, Virus and a bunch of others that are beginning to attract attention in our field, they are the future of the future, they've got so much time ahead of them, and so much talent invested in each competitor, there's plenty of time for them to become a big attraction. What bothers me are the people in-between and of course the respect towards those at the top currently, it seems to me, that those who're just starting out, can't wait, their juices pumping and they want to make something of themselves, they want to get involved right in the shuffle. The question I must ask then, with these eager young rookies, what happens to Marcus Hailey, what happens to Ray Willmott, a man in my opinion, who should be given the chance to elevate above the lower end championships and onto the higher scale of things, what about Sean Sanders, perhaps one of the most underrated talents in our field today, what about Matt Hoffman, an awesome talent who seems to get better every week, what about Sean Boden, whose game has picked up so much these past few months, what happens to Lunatikk Crippler and Bazooka Joe, Michael Draven, and Jonathon Storm, do you see what I'm driving at?
To sum it up, I believe our circuit is suddenly filled with too much talent, there are too many guys wanting to run the ride, they truly believe they deserve this opportunity, and the ability they display every week is unbelievable! Yet you've got this guys, stuck in the mid-card now like Hailey, Hoffman, Willmott, Sanders, Draven, Joe, Crippler, Boden and Storm, and the way I see it, at this rate, they just won't have the chance to exert their full potential, because when the big guns like Smith, Wood, Kanyon, Dogg, Daniels and Venom do hang up the tights, those rookies like Rune, Loco, Virus, Messiah, Nightmare, Angel, the lot of em will be hounding on them like a pack of dogs, and although all of these aforementioned talents are superb, all for different reasons, these young guys just want to hog the spotlight, and hungry promoters these days will just eat it up. In my opinion, it would be a crying shame for Hailey, Willmott, Draven, Joe, Hoffman, Sanders, the lot of them not to get the chance to be the big players of the future, not to have the ample opportunity of being flagships for companies. The way I see it, somebody has to lose out, if the older guys want to stay on a few more years, the way I feel -- those mid-carders will eventually disperse onto new career ambitions or possibly other things. If the older ones leave, giving the guys in the mid-card, the chance for superstardom, then suddenly they're right under threat by these eager youngsters. It's sad for me to sit here, and be unable to lift a finger to do anything about it, but it's the way of the World, in order to be at the top of the scale, you need to backstab, bitch, crawl and do anything possible to survive, this is possibly the most cutthroat business of them all, and it's never more true than in the squared circle, and outside it.
My synopsis on the situation, I'm happy with the way things are now, but you've always got to have your finger on the button in this business, stars can get injured, people drop out, and you've always got to be ready to have the next best thing ready to elevate and kick some ass in the upper card. TV is still very entertaining, those older guys can still put on 5* matches, as can the mid-card guys with them, you can never fail to impress somebody like me, because I can be a mark for this business and proud of it. I love the competition, I love the athleticism, I love the guys in the back, I love the women affiliated with the guys in the back, it's all just one big family, and I'm proud to be a part of it, small though it maybe. Just keep those awesome shows coming, and you'll always have a viewer in Terrance McPhilly!
Now then, I suppose you're all itching to know what that meeting was about I had a few days back? Well I can inform you on some information, but in VERY small doses, I warn you in advance. Well basically, I've been in contact with a source, that shall remain anonymous, and basically there is talks of YET ANOTHER federation being opened in the not too distant future. The projected time is September, late it may seem, but the competition will be broadened with a whole new bunch of Indy workers that have yet to taste competition in this circuit. No big signings made as of yet, but you have to believe more information will surface on this federation, and as soon as it does, it will be detailed in the Sentilating Synopsis! Oh and another thing to DEVine Entertainment, just who the heck is Angela Chang banging now? It seems to me that woman gets to be picky about her guys more than any other woman in this business, I hope some more light is shed on this situation, but there's certainly something odd going on in the NPWA right now! It all of course leads into DEVine Intervention in about two weeks time, June 24th, and the winner of Marcus Hailey/Erik Draven next week on NPWA programming will lock up with Grady Smith for the Heavyweight title. Add to that of course the intense hatred surfacing between Kanyon and Venom, those two have an intention of destroying each other, not to mention Michael Draven and Haywood Jublome, that is of course Wood survives the Explosion match the week before the event! What of Ray Willmott, what match will the standalone DFR member be involved in, seeing as all of his stablemates have other business, Jack Daniels too, how does he slot in? The final weeks leading up to this PPV should be awesome, and we also can't fail to mention that the hardcore title will be decided, Chris Kanyon, Lunatikk Crippler and The Homicidal Maniac have all advanced, but who will become the hardcore champion at the PPV, I guess we'll find out sooner rather than later. What an event it's shaping up to be...
...That brings us to the final section of the Sentilating Synopsis and that would be the Wrestler of the Week. To be honest people, the choice has never been so easy in my opinion, although there's been a lot of impressive showings this week, the awesome finals of the Lethal Lottery tournament, Dark Messiah v Rune, TGO and Joe, there is still one wrestler that has captivated the mood tenfold. None other than Sean Boden himself! This is a young man that's had a young career, not quite into his second year in this circuit, but my God, has he ever stepped up his game lately. I mean he's got back to back victories over two of the most feared and respected men in this sport, Tryst and Kanyon, and believe me, that is UNHEARD of until now! Boden has gone from being the guy that opened up shows, and being, what people coined as "an image of HATE", into being one of the fastest rising stars to the top of the dance! Boden's work ethic was never in question, he's always had the talent, and now finally, under Angela Chang, Boden is being given the chance to show what he's made of, and my God, is he ever running with that ball. This reporter has never been more proud to know a wrestler than he is with Sean, one of the nicest guys you'll meet, despite all the crap he's had to put up with. I always knew this kid would have the last laugh on his critics and doubters, and by God, is he ever doing that now. Sean Boden, you're without question, more than deserving of this accolade this week, congratulations on some grade A wrestling, an awesome angle which I hope to see the return of Zero within, and of course, some stellar upsets that have shocked the balance of this sport. Gimme a call the next time somebody beats Nukeman, Tryst, Kanyon and ends the impressive rookie, Phoenix Dark's undefeated streak in the space of two weeks, and I might take you seriously! Until then, Sean Boden is the freakin' man!!
