Marking Out

"Lesse, I got Corey, Angela, and Duane...that's a joker, Queen, King...but where's my ace?"
Ah....the summer is upon us and the deck is just now being shuffled for the battle of the giants. A summer in which the EWA/NPWA war could tear apart the landscape of this ciruit. Or it could not. A summer where we've watched with bated breath as the NYSWF has threatened to fold under pressure but still has bounded back. And what better way to dive into this than a 4 part special! *yaah!*...okay, enough of that, and let's get straight to it. We know these three feds all have the key ingredients to make things happen this year, and we know that most likely, and explosion of sorts will cause at least one of them to fail. Whether it be backstage pressures, or money reasons...only the strong will survive the summer of 2001. As a wrestling fan, you'd like to see all three giants walk out standing tall. But, what would it take to do that? Well, it's just getting the right cards...that's what. And I'l tell you all they need to know to get those cards.
NYSWF:...okay, okay. I'm not gonna bash the NYSWF here, so shove it goths...What am I gonna talk about is how I see the formula to make the oldest fed here get back to the top again. Now, mark my words NYSWF fans, it won't be easy. Not when you have the EWA/NPWA, prolly two of the greatest feds ever, standing in your way. And especially not when every critic jumps on you like a lame duck. But yes, there is hope for the NYSWF and I think it's fairly obvious what that hope is.
The New Blood: It's been said many times, but the talent of the new blood in NYSWF isn't being used right. The Academy roster has been forced straight into the mid-card while the other's have been forced to sit back and only shake thier heads. It's this underutilizing of talent and pushing the wrong people that has cost Collins some of his best wrestlers. Grady Smith, Hoffman, Haven to name a few. He seems to want to give the chance to whoever befreinds him. And as much as Collins, himself, can deny this, we all know the trend. When you've got guys like Loco Martinez, Sigel Pheonix, Jon Storm sitting on the bench while Messiah and Krow are being pushed to the sky, there's something wrong. Now, granted, I think Corey has taken the hint. I think he's finally realised what's best for his fed is not always best for him and his buddies. I'm only hoping this means a push for the kids who've worked so hard in thier short time in the NYSWF. Not the ones who fight through the Academy to receive a belt in the real ring. If anything, this weekend could be the shaping up period that the NYSWF needs. They're moving in the right direction. Having Messiah defend his title, giving Boden a chance at T.V. gold possibly. But is it too little to late?
Maybe the world has turned it's back on New York, and maybe they deserve it. But that shouldn't discredit the effort of the top few in that federation. People with enough talent that they wouldn't be forced to curtain jerk in another federation if they too, left. Sigel, Pheonix, Loco Martinez, Jon Storm, Virus, Boden, Spiral and Robertson. They all deserve equal amounts of credit. And right there is your winning hand Mr. Collins. That crop of stars can save this fed if anyone. Personally, the possibillities of Loco and Sigel are endless. Here's your fued of the next month....the N.A. Hardcore title and Chachi himself. Two young stars who've earned an amazing amount of respect and I'm willing to bet that one of them could come out of this fued and get the world title. Jon Storm is like the missing link. The guy has been thrown to the wolves gimmickly so many times, his career may be damaged. But that doesn't discount the amount of talent he has. If he stops becoming family with everyone and goes back to what brought him here, like his NxWo days, the guy could have infinate potential. Now, Virus and Robertson are top talents. Granted, I would like to see someone besides them two as holing the top prize. I say Collins has done a good job of giving them the tag straps and keeping them content. Just don't give them anymore. Why? Because the main title should feature your two best workers. It's been like that for ages. Harding Cash, Jack Daniels, Grady Smith, Smirtdogg. If your best and brightest don't hold that belt, your fed is shit. Hence Messiah's reign is doing little for the fed. It's not that he's a bad champion, because he isn't. But he hasn't done anything with the belt. Anyone say Spiral and Boden? Ding ding! We have a winner! Whether Spiral really has outside problem's or not, you could do no harm in giving him your world belt at this point. At least you'd have a face there everyone can recognize. Same with Boden. He's becoming like the Crippler of the fed. The guy that stays loyal but never gets his big push.
Collins has so many, but so little options now. He can easily decorate and reshuffle his upper card. And he's got room to work with an undercard filled with fresh faces. But has the NYSWF been beaten down and pissed on just enough so that it won't rise again? I doubt it. But you never know. They're promising big things in the coming weeks, but it could all be a ploy and nothing more. I'll keep my eyes peeled, or try to. In the meantime, the NYSWF has to slap the poker face back on and deal it's final hand. Till Part 2.....Peace
