MAC-Attack

By Jonathan McMahon

Well, well...the MTT2 is around the corner, and I'm going to go ahead and make some early picks in the first qualifying round. I'm going to refrain from making any judgements on any team, but I admit it now. I mark for The Pit and the Pendulum. It's a shame they're not competing this year. I will tell you one thing. This is a wide open tourney, due to the lots of first time teamers (Finger Lickin' Good, Dysfunction), and the lack of a dominant force in the tourney (Bloodsport, Black Hand, Public Enemy). Anyways, onto the show.

Dark Force Rising vs. The New Demolition- Grady Smith has been one of my all time favorite wrestlers, and to watch him with Scott Sanders will be a joy. The New Demolition is a team I know little, if any, about. Grady's not a legend for nothing, and the DFR entry into the tournament will dispose of them.

The Dynasty vs. The Frontline- ICON! ICON! Wow, Erik Draven and HBK! I admit it...that could be the favorites to win...easily. The Frontline is a young, upstart team, that I was harsh on in the last column. Don't expect anything different this time. It's not like I hate them, but they just seem to be overmatched in this particular moment. I still think they could be a good force, since they have the one thing a few of these teams don't have...EXPERIENCE. I'll have to pick The Dynasty.

Dysfunction vs. The Nu-Wave- If Alex Haven and Michael Draven don't kill each other before the first bell, they'll be one of the top teams in this tournament. I don't know anything about Sigel's partner, but Sigel himself is a tough competitor. I expect this to be all Nu-Wave, but if Dysfunction finds a rapport as teammates, they're going to hurt somebody, starting with Sigel and Morrisey.

The Lost Boys vs. Perfect Destruction- Almost everyone in this circuit has yet to see Michael Trey in action. Watching him is almost sublime. An HWF Grand Slam winner, the guy has actually been one of Storm's biggest rivals in the company. Their "Abandon All Hope" finisher looks to be the most dangerous in the tournament, but I'll finish tooting my client's own horn. You didn't know? I'm in charge of So-Cal Impact Enterprises...and the webmaster of the award-winning JonathanStorm.com. Jonathan and Trey look to be at a disadvantage, since Joe and Evan are stablemates in the NPWA. Whichever way this goes, one of these teams is going to be a fearsome force in the NPWA. I refrain judgement on this match. Not only do I make sure that Jonathan Storm is always busy in this world...but I'm a big fan of Evan Douglas. The kid's got so much potential, it hurts.

Finger Lickin' Good vs. Interracial Insanity- Think about things this way. Jaron Ryze and Sean Sanders are teaming. Jaron Ryze is one of Sean's best friends, not to mention they've won the CWF Tag Title together...you're in for something HUGE. Another possibility for favorites could march out of this as Lunatikk's no slouch, and neither is "The Divine Hazard". I'm going to go out and pick FLG on this, as I'm thinking that Sanders can put aside that friendship, like he's done a few times before with other people.

Under The Influence vs. Team Xtreme- Something about this tells me we're in for a treat. Dane Matthews is ever so impressive, along with Jon Gorski, but JD and Venom have always been tough guys, and I don't think that their hatred for each other will be enough to stop them from stomping away at Xtreme. This is one for UTI, and just two more matches away from a #1 Seed.

Total Devastation vs. Wildfire- I won't go into detail in this. I have no idea who Paladin or Chris Beckett are. I saw Beckett once in competition, and wasn't impressed. Wildfire wins in a squash. One more number one seed decided.

Partners in Crime vs. Long Island Hardcore- Apologies to Camel for their tough break this weekend. Jonathan and I both see strong potential in CJ and Jared, and they could be the ones who potentially win this thing. I won't mince words...they'll struggle, but not in this one. LIHC via The Straightedge.

Jon's #1 Seed picks: Wildfire, Under The Influence, (tie) DFR, The Dynasty, or Dysfunction.

Finals Pick: Dysfunction over Under The Influence

Teams To Watch: Team Xtreme, Perfect Destruction, The Lost Boys

Now for The Mac's top five list for the NYSWF after this weekend.

5) The Krow- WOW! Did you see him go through Messiah? I'm impressed, and it's not like he only had a little to work with. Congrats on the win, big man.

4) Rune Robertson- The veteran creeps into the top five, but he's not the "it" guy in the fed anymore. The win, in my opinion, wasn't anything special by him, and now he's just in cruise control. He needs something new.

3) Jonathan Storm- I won't lie to you. That match against Sigel should be a wakeup call to the people of the NYSWF. He's not playing games anymore, and I'm also thinking he's going to only get rougher in the weeks to come.

2) Dark Messiah- Geez man...I give you the #2 this week, merely because you're still the World Champion. Be happy you're still on the list.

1) (tie) Virus, Xtreme and Loco Martinez- A three way chokehold on the top spot, because each of them came out looking stellar this weekend. Xtreme shocked us all beating Spiral and Spyke, which is no easy task. Virus won the TV title, gave it back, and has Dark Messiah as an opponent this weekend for the World Title. Simply put, he's on the up and up. Loco exorcsised his demons (pun intended), and retained against Nightmare. Loco's skits with Corey Collins had me rolling on the floor laughing.

Until next week, it's The Mac, signing out.
