Mac Attack
By Jonathan McMahon
First off, welcome to The Dirtsheet. I'm proud to be affiliated with this,
and at the same time, I'm proud to be writing this for all of you to
see/read/laugh at. Let me start off with a few things...
Before we start, congrats to Jonathan "The Impact" Storm from reaching the
102 win mark. He's probably one of the most underrated competitors in this
circuit, and the guy takes bumps like it's nothing. He got win 102 in big
fashion at The Big Japan Classic, which I'm here to review.
Anyways, the show had a hot opener with Julian Dreamwalker and Virus.
Julian's got a lot of work to do to prove that he deserved his singles push,
and he's not just a tag competitor. Virus pulled off a spectacular win, and
he's the most underrated NYSWF competitor. I expect huge things from him,
and I wasn't disappointed later in the night.
Then around came Shawn Hunter and Spyke facing Xtreme and Krow. Mediocre
tag match, with the stablemates Xtreme and Krow picking up the win. To be
honest, I'm not a fan of those guys, and their push, if they're getting one,
better be for a really good reason. Hunter looked a little sluggish, but
Spyke really showed me something. I like his style.
Angel has to be one of the most hardcore competitors in the company.
Bumping like she did for Dark Messiah showed that she's a hell of an
athlete. I was shocked she didn't advance, but she's following up her
performance by drawing NOTHING as an opponent this weekend. That's a huge
reward, and a a sign for things to come for young Skie Taylor. Messiah, on
the other hand, proved me wrong. I had Loco Martinez picked as the tourney
winner, and Messiah as a struggling guy, but nonetheless, a top star for the
future. This only speeds up the process...but I have to see how he'd hold
up against the veterans of the company. I'll be waiting for the
Boden/Messiah, or even Storm/Messiah match.
The returns of Jason Phoenix and Execution shocked everyone, and nobody saw
it coming. Maybe they can propel themselves to the next level this time
around...I see Spiral/Dreamwalker vs. Ex/Phoenix at the
Supercard...hopefully it'll be worth watching.
Speaking of Spiral, it was good to see him put Sigel Pheonix over in the
street fight. Nothing spectacular there, but it shows that Sigel has
arrived. I look forward to more of him.
Nightmare and Loco took each other to the limits, in what stole the show. I
personally believe it was match of the night, and it set the pace for what's
going to be a good main event run for Nightmare. Nightmare's had a good run
training for this level, and Collins has a strong main eventer in this guy.
Was I the only one disappointed by the OCW deathmatch? It ended a bit
abruptly, but NOTHING and Jon bumped like mad for each other. I wasn't
disappointed with the results, but I really wish they would've used a bit
more of what they had. They did have the spot of the night, with the DDT
through the glass. They did show some wrestling skills, with the big time
reversals and ability to still draw a crowd with their charisma. If Jon
doesn't take the next level up, I'm going to be disappointed.
Azazel and Rune was a bit of a bore to watch, as I never viewed either as a
huge draw, but now I'm looking forward to the Virus/Azazel feud brewing from
all of it. Maybe even Rune/Sigel? Who knows, but I expect it to be worth
watching.
Finally, Messiah and Nightmare went nuts on each other, and the two of them
displayed their skills to the fullest. It was a violent match, and
something I had to rewind the tape to watch it a few times. Each of these
guys deserved to be there, but that's in the class of rookies. The real
factor of whether or not either has arrived will happen when they face the
veterans.
Overall, this PPV was definitely proof that the NYSWF is alive and well,
despite rumours of the opposite. Without further adieu...The Mack's first
ever NYSWF Honour Roll.
5) Jonathan Storm- A spectacular win, following up an excellent whirlwind
two weeks for Jon. I expect a good follow up to him this weekend against
Sigel.
4) Angel- This girl's got herself another tough challenge, but if she can
turn away NOTHING, I expect her to be right in the running for Storm's
Lightweight Title, or Messiah's World Title
3) Loco Martinez- Hey, he's the longest reigning champ in the NYSWF
currently...gonna argue with that?
2) Nightmare- He bumps, he bruises, he's wrestling this weekend. I won't
argue, but I'll stand back in awe.
1) Dark Messiah- A brittle hold on #1. I don't know how long he'll stay,
but I hope it's a while.
That's all from me this week. Next week, I'll recap this follow up weekend..
