Backstage Pass
By Ryan "Camel" Cuddihy
Yes, it's late. Don't make me kill you. It's been a rough week, and I'm just getting back in the groove. Figured I'd get this up as soon as I could. And you can do two things about that: shut up, and like it. God, I love being an asshole.
To those NYSWF fans out there, I'm sorry I didn't get the cards up. Seems kinda pointless now, considering UAN has already hit the air. I will be here with a recap tomorrow, and it will be on time.
And now, to keep Prez Gates off my case for it, here is the EWA Backstage Pass. If it sucks, blame him.
Not surprisingly, this card was high quality. The wrestling was good (what wrestling there was), and the interviews were tense, and well done. If you were involved in this, pat yourself on the back... unless you're Sigel Phoenix, in which case I'll just come over there and beat you down. So there.
~ Quite the opening package, might I add. In comes Larry Watson, playing an interview with current EWA World Champ "Cold" Harding Cash. Cash, elevating his mad heel status with that interview, no question... Cash is on his way to getting top heel in the EWA, another week and there won't be any question... mainly because it's hard to tell which side of the fence anyone else is on right now. Cash is probably the only real heel in the company at the moment.
~ KG and Rob Harris ends in a no-contest due to interference from the Golden One. TGO says he's not in the business of impressing Duane Gates. Needless to say, Gates wasn't happy about that... and told TGO that depending on the outcome of his match tonight, he may not make it into the World Title tourney. Ouch. I do however thank TGO for saving us from the match that would've gone down.
~ And there I am. Me, Boden, Cindy, and my good friends CJ Nelson and Jared Walsh, Long Island Hardcore, and the best damn team in the NPWA right now if I do say so myself (and I do). We say some completely honest, and truthful things about Sigel Phoenix, and Sean gets kinda mad and storms out.
~ The Butcher d. Joey Logan. This one didn't really come too much as a surprise to me. Logan's not bad, but he needs to work on his skills on the stick before I can really take him seriously as a contender. Congrats to the Butcher in his first EWA match and win.
~ Boden mercilessly gives Sigel Phoenix the beating he deserves, and walks away. Word to yo' momma.
~ Haywood Jublome d. Johnny Blaze in a not-so-unexpected embarrassing squash. I don't even want to comment any further on this match.
~ Ah, Bazooka Joe finally lives up to his name, blowing up Nukeman's car with a bazooka, of course. Both perfect to get the challenge across, and the simple comedy in that as well.
~ Me, CJ, Jared and Sean beat up Sigel Phoenix some more, since his match was cancelled due to Evan Douglas' departure. I love my job. Evan, we're sorry to see you go, bro.
~ Boden d. Phoenix Dark to retain the EWA Hardcore Title. The match started right after we layed out the other Phoenix of the fed. It went well, until a masked man tried to lay out Boden. Wasn't enough to keep him down, though. I'm almost sad to see Dark's winning streak end. Almost. Hey, play with the master, son, you're gonna be shot down.
~ Erik Draven d. Lunatikk Crippler in another 10-second match up. C'mon, guys, everybody's sick of these. Anyway... the match ends, and Haywood lays into Draven like it ain't no thang. And we all know how much of a thang laying into Draven really is. So Haywood did a good job. OK.
~ Raven and "Cold" Harding Cash d. Jack Daniels and Nukeman, but what a way to win for Raven. Raven got beat down by both Cash and JD as the match ended... I for one didn't see that coming, although I should've. Made for good entertainment none the less.
~ TGO d. Bazooka Joe to advance in the EWA IC Title tourney. This also means TGO will get his chance at the title... provided he can face down the other three competitors. A great match-up, and a double whammy for Bazooka Joe... loses the chance at two titles.
For what wrestling there was on there, it was tense, taut, and done with the skill that we have come to expect from Gates and his promotions. The World Title scene is heating up to say the least. Next week's War should prove to be "smoking," "hot," and quite possibly, "one for the record books." Feel free to add any more cliches as it suits you.
~ Nukeman takes on Joey Logan. I want to see some blood come out of this one. If I don't, I will be disappointed. And when I get disappointed, I hurt people. So don't disappoint me.
~ Another First Round IC Title Tourney match, the Butcher v. KG. Let's see if the Butcher can keep up his streak, or if KG can overcome his current trend of not winning.
~ Erik Draven v. the Golden One. The winner of this match takes on the winner of the other #1 contender's match on War at Clash of the Champions. Should be a "barnburner."
~ Another IC Title tourney match, it's the battle of the Phoenixes. Dark faces Sigel. These rookies have been on a roll recently... let's see who can keep it up.
~ Here's the other #1 contender match. Jack Daniels goes up against Haywood Jublome. Another classic, we've seen this one so many times before, but it never gets old.
~ Bazooka Joe v. Sean Boden in non-title action. This is a match we've seen a couple of times before, and it never fails to disappoint... well, it always ends with Boden losing, so I guess that's disappointing, but whatever.
~ Main Event: Raven takes on Cash for the World Title. If you miss this match, think of the most painful way you can commit suicide, and then do it twice.
I'll be back with my NYSWF report tomorrow, and you can take the name of that tune to the bank.
Camel out.
