Backstage Pass
By Ryan "Camel" Cuddihy
Here I go with another stupid recap thingie.
I'm sorry, I'm just not in a good mood this week. First of all, as you may or may not know, Long Island Hardcore did not succeed in grabbing the NPWA Tag Titles this Sunday. Of course, it's not for lack of trying. I mean, they had a rigorous practice schedule of drinking beer all weekend from the time they woke up until they finally passed out. Who woulda thought they'd fail? Sean Boden, who has come back from his knee injury better than ever, loses to Rune Robertson. And finally, Chris Best opens up the MTT2, and LIHC gets in, but does anyone ask Camel to be their partner? No. Of course not. I feel like the ugly girl at school. I swear, if I have to ask Tom Douglas to join me in the tourney...
So if it sounds like I'm bitter as I write this, it's because I am. Lemme quickly start with the NPWA employment report: Quintin "Q" Lucas, if you're reading this, you'd best be looking for employment elsewhere. Ta-ta, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
Without further ado, the NYSWF weekend, from the Academy up to Sunday Night Heat.
First order of business: Training Session. Guess what? It didn't happen. Don't ask me why, I haven't a clue, but there was apparently a double no-show for the main event. So you know what? I don't care, neither man in the main event deserves to be advanced. See you guys some other time.
On to Up All Night.
~ Virus cuts a pre-recorded interview with Todd Williams, showing off his knowledge of what goes on in Todd's private life, and just why he had a TV Title shot this week. Virus, no matter what others may say about his associations, is one of THE up and coming stars in this NYSWF. And I'm not just saying that. You know that cuz I'm pissed off.
~ Krow and Dark Messiah argue over just who deserves control of Todd McCaine. I think Jack Adonis said it best: "What a couple of wierdos... two grown men fighting over a boy? Shouldn't this somehow be illegal?"
~ Xtreme d. Spiral and Spyke. Wow. I seriously didn't see this coming. After recieving word on Friday (of course, after I posted the card) that Spiral WOULD be in attendance, I really thought he'd have this one nailed. Xtreme proved me wrong. Personally, I really don't think Xtreme should be getting over this quickly. And as for Spiral, there's a rumor going around that he got jobbed because of some controversial substance in his promo this week. I don't think I believe that, but since I'm just in a bad mood, badmouthing everyone seems to be the right way to do things right now. So f*** you.
~ Rune Robertson d. Sean Boden. You all know I'm not happy about this. Seriously. I've always thought Boden's been kept down, and dammit, this is just one more blemish. I mean, really... the guy's been a part of the NYSWF for almost 2 years now, and he's getting jobbed left and right. I don't understand it sometimes... least the match was intense. Anyway, on with the show.
~ Krow continues his search for Dark Messiah, he seems quite pissed off. Why these two are continually fighting over a freakin' boy still amazes me... it's not like he's the Second Coming, people.
~ Loco Martinez d. Nightmare to remain NA-Core Champ. My one ray of hope in this dark, dark world.
~ Azazel and Execution meet up for the first time since Ex got injured, and Ex isn't too happy. However, Azazel convinces him that it wasn't the Fellowship that screwed him, just Rune. I'm sorry, Ex, but Boden had the right idea: kick all of their asses.
~ Virus d. Azazel to become new TV Champ, and promptly returns the belt. An excellent match-up, from beginning to end. Virus overcame Azazel, and became the TV Title. After the match, he called out Corey Collins, and got himself a World Title match for next week! The one good surprise of the show, Virus played Corey Collins like an out-of-tune guitar. At least that was fun to watch.
~ Krow finally met with Dark Messiah, and it nearly cost him his life, as Todd was going to cut his face to shreds. He was stopped: this was a lesson in self-control. OK. If you guys say so.
All in all, an average card from the NYSWF. Nothing spectacular. On to Sunday Night Heat.
~ Loco Martinez comes out to start the show off, tricking Scott Baio into leaving his post by sending him on a wild goose chase. Actually, it was more like a wild Ron Howard chase, but whatever.
~ NOTHING beats the hell out of Angel backstage. What happened? This would've been a great match. Eh, well... I'll have to get some info on why that match didn't happen. If you dare to bitch at me about that, I'll kill you.
~ Dark Messiah and Nightmare have a buddy-buddy chat. Nightmare isn't getting his memories back because he's afraid of what the outcome will be... if he just goes with the flow, everything will be groovy, man. Does this sound like stock horror movie stuff to anyone else? I swear, they've just stoppped trying.
~ Corey Collins is annoyed that Scott Baio has disappeared... Loco Martinez shows up to tell him the bad news... the Sallys have kidnapped Scott, and they're demanding a title shot, or Scott gets it! A threat from the Sallys? This had to be a setup. Of course, Collins falls for it hook line and sinker. It was all a plot by Loco to spend some more "quality time" with the President. Scary, scary thought.
~ Shawn Hunter d. Execution. Fairly straightforward match, with a clean finish. Nothing too special, although well worked by both men.
~ More zaniness with Loco and Collins in the Boiler room. Must say, the little vignettes Loco has been doing with Collins have been amusing, and the high points of the show. Think Mankind-Vince. Loco tries to cheer up Collins, with juggling, stories, and a puppet show... nearly killing him in the process. If you had any reason to watch SNH, this was it.
~ Jon Storm d. Sigel Phoenix. So he's not invincible. My least favorite part of the night, I swear. I really really wish Sigel would win a few more, he's got the skill, all he needs is to get over. But hey, a loss to Storm isn't so bad.
~ Virus' commercial said it all. Messiah failed to beat Loco for the NA-Core title in the match to unify it at Boiling Point, but he stumbled into the World Title two months later. Couldn't have said it better myself.
~ More wacky antics from Loco in the Boiler Room. He's gotten Collins sick now, with all this candy and soda... seriously, this is one that must be seen to be believed. Mainly because Loco FINALLY tells off Collins, after running him around in his wheelchair like you wouldn't believe. Finally, Collins pukes after they make it to the arena. Oh, man... too funny.
~ OK... why did Nightmare join the Fellowship? Eh, I'm not gonna argue.
~ Krow d. Dark Messiah. Frankly, the match wasn't all that exciting. And it wasn't for the title, which Krow deserves more than Messiah, in my opinion.
Basically, SNH was a downer for me. The only plus was Loco's little vignettes, but that was a big plus... I watched through the entire card just to see what would happen to Collins. Otherwise, the wrestling wasn't spectacular, with the possible exception of the Storm/Sigel match. Other than that... eh. Not a bad weekend for the NYSWF, but not the best, either.
Anyway, be sure to catch the NPWA's Malice tomorrow night, it no doubt will be yet another good card. As for SNH and UAN, I don't have the cards, but they'll be on this weekend at the normal times on CBS. I hear Sean Boden has a big announcement to make this weekend... should he make it to this weekend.
Camel out, but still pretty damn depressed.
