Backstage Pass
Ryan "Camel" Cuddihy: October 16, 2001
Yes, you're not dreaming, it's TWO Backstage Passes in ONE GLORIOUS NIGHT. Sorry, had to hype this.
For those of you who don't know the Hardcore Wrestling Federation, get ready to get a crash course in one of the craziest fucking feds ever to grace the planet. No censors, no rules (most of the time), and no pussies allowed. It's true, I swear.
Their most recent PPV, Born 2 Bleed, took place this Sunday in Tampa, and it rocked the Ice Palace to its cool, vanilla center. You'll see some familiar names in here, and you'll see some people you've never heard of. Don't worry... you'll get to know them soon enough. On with Born 2 Bleed.
~ Jermaine Owens d. Jake Keeton. Johnny Blaze's protege Owens has shown me quite a bit the past two weeks, defeating established HWF'er Blake Matthews last week, and now newcomer Jake Keeton. Both men worked hard this week, but the match was a little short... but all things considered, a damn good effort by both men. Look to see Owens rise up the ranks in a quick fashion, and Keeton just a little bit slower. I see both men becoming pretty big players soon enough.
~ "Jon-Tastic" Jon Fuller has a few words to say to one Tony Bradshaw. He makes it pretty clear that he's not only a contender for the HWF North American title, but he deserves it more than anyone else, and that's all there is to it. But with opponents like Hostile Man, Sean Boden, and Inferna, good luck to him.
~ Robbie Storm d. Michael Draven in an HWF Tryout Match (by DQ). Robbie Storm needed to win this match in order to secure himself an HWF contract, and our good pal Draven didn't let him down... but what a way to win. Storm kicked out of the Descent, and needless to say, Draven was none too happy, heading under the ring, and grabbing a kendo stick, beating the hell out of Storm like a red-headed stepchild. Of course, this was one of the rare HWF matches that didn't have a "No DQ" stipulation. Robbie Storm gets his contract, with a side order of welts, and a large can of whoop-ass.
~ Former HWF wrestlers Magnum Force are looking for a comeback... except that Mike Javelin is a little permanently injured. So it won't be Magnum Force, exactly. Vinny Vile will be half of the tag team, and the other half: newcomer "Extreme" Eric Daniels (no relation). With the distinct lack of tag teams in the HWF, the addition will be welcome, no matter how good they are. Personally, I don't know 'em, but I've only been around the HWF since about late 2000. We'll have to play this one by ear. Prez Sterling set them up with a temporary contract in an attempt to see how Daniels wrestles, and he'll decide then.
~ Jason Roberts attempts to ask Wildcat Williams a few questions... but gets a little intimidated in return. Williams is set to face Damage, Inc. (no connection to the Johnny Napalm NYSWF Stable) later tonight in a handicap match for the tag titles, that is, if he can't find a partner. From what it looks like, he'll be going solo tonight.
~ MC Gino d. Scythe in a Drugs on a pole match. I'm sorry, I can't even describe this one... it has to be seen to believed. The most violent match of the night.
~ Goten the wonder kid apologizes for kicking a cameraman in the groin earlier in the week. The cameraman accepts, and Goten gives him candy. Hold on, I think I'm gonna cry. No, not really.
~ Johnny Thunder's dog, LEE, got hit by a car. Now, for those of you who don't know, LEE is just about everything to Thunder, so that's like... that's like Jack Daniels without any alcohol. It's a sad, sad day for everybody. Add to that, Thunder has a match tonight... this could be real bad.
~ Johnny Thunder d. Blake Matthews and Justin Zeit to capture the XCW Television Title. Those of you not really following, the XCW is like a seperate fed operating within the HWF. Don't ask, I don't know all the details... I'll have to have Sterling bring me up to speed. Anyway, Thunder put on an excellent show, considering the circumstances, and Matthews and Zeit also put out a top-notch effort. In the end, Thunder overcame the odds and his grief to come out on top. And this one was another brutal match-up (which really shouldn't surprise anybody).
~ Goten the super child wants to be Wildcat's partner against Damage, Inc. tonight... I tell ya, the kid's got balls. But I gotta ask... why the hell did he get signed to a contract? Lance, did you get into Scythe and Gino's stash before the match, or what?
~ Last week was Rickey Williams' last match in the HWF, and they put together a top-notch video package. Only problem I had with it: Sarah McLaughlin. Sorry, guys, just not a big Sarah McLaughlin fan. I pray that song never gets used again. Other than that... it was a good farewell to Williams, and his presence will be missed in the HWF.
~ Wait... it looks like Jon Storm will be pulling double duty tonight, whether Wildcat wants it or not. That's right: Wildcat Williams and Jon Storm will be defending the Tag Team Titles against Damage, Inc. But...
~ Damage, Inc. d. Jon Storm/Wildcat Williams to become the HWF Tag Team Champs. A hell of a match, as it went back and forth faster than the World Ping-Pong Tournament. In the end, Storm attempted to keep the titles after Rashaad hit Williams with the Train Wreck, but Rashaad wasn't the legal man anyway. Max Ether covered Williams in a very anti-climactic ending. Needless to say, Storm wasn't too happy, but Wildcat couldn't complain. No, seriously, he couldn't, as far as I could tell, he was unconscious.
~ Cloud Storm and Chris Chaos get themselves HWF contracts, and a match next week... against opponents of Lance Sterling's choosing. Well, the question is: will Lance consider them allies or enemies? Who will they face? I don't even want to try to speculate.
~ Former HWF owner Chaz Manson is back! And he's got quite a surprise for the man who wants the HWF to advance into the future (ie, without Chaz Manson): he's the new XCW Commissioner! With the XCW seperating soon, we'll see if this is really as big a deal as Chaz made it seem.
~ Brimstone is here, or something. I don't know.
~ Hostile Man d. Jon Fuller, Inferna, and Sean Boden to become HWF North American Champion. Gotta hand it to my best friend Sean, not two weeks into his tenure in the HWF, and he's already got a title shot... and he gets to wrestle Inferna, a joy unto itself. This one was a spotfest, start to finish. I don't think there was a person who left the match without bleeding, what with Boden's light tube shenanigans, and Buck Williams coming down and tearing it up. In the end, it was Hostile Man winning out, and becoming the first ever HWF NA champ. Sterling's gonna be so pissed.
~ Uh-oh. Daniels and Wildcat are already making friends. OK, not really. OK, not at all, in fact, they just brawled around in the back after Eric said some really stupid things, in my opinion. Daniels is getting in over his head, in my humble journalistic opinion.
~ I don't know what the fuck happened here... I was supposed to see Teen Angst vs. Riot and Genocyde in a Bloodshed to Bloodties match (which I've never heard of, so I was intrigued), but I think my satellite cut out or something. That's really not cool, DirecTV.
~ Jon Storm d. Chris Davison and Night Stalker (along with a slew of others) to retain the HWF World Title. I'm glad it came back for this match, definitely the highlight of the show. Storm and Davison seemed to work as a team for most of the match, surprisingly, considering their background. A pin break-up by Davison later, and that falls apart rather quickly. Another one that was just spot after spot from the three men, who worked damn hard this match. By the time the match ended, though, there were literally 7 or 8 people in the ring. Tempest, Robbie Storm, Sean Boden, Michael Draven, it was the biggest clusterfuck I've seen since the Rebellion, HATE, SHIT, and the Insurrection brawled it out on NYSWF TV back in like April. Boden, Draven, and Storm screwed over Davison, holding Jon Storm in place for the pin. From what I've gathered, Draven, Boden, and Robbie want to take the belt off of Storm themselves. Can't say I blame them. They then proceeded to beat the crap out of Jon. Great way to end the program.
All in all, a great PPV from the HWF, if you ask me. I recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet... buy the encore, really, do it. It's for your own good. This week's edition of Sunday Suicide proves to be just as good as we can expect from the HWF.
~ Robbie Storm takes on Wildcat Williams. This one should be a battle, both men are huge, and both have more than enough talent to get them over on that alone. Robbie Storm proved he had gusto after his match with Draven, being one of the very very few people I've ever seen kick out of the Descent, and Wildcat didn't get his nickname for nothing: the Wrecking Crew was THE most dominant tag team in the HWF for quite a while, with limited competition from Teen Angst and the Warriors of the Rising Sun. Too early to call this one.
~ Hostile Man defends his newly won North American Title against one of his opponents from B2B, Inferna. Another one that should be interesting. Hostile Man showed his toughness in the NA Title match, and Inferna is one of the toughest wrestlers in the HWF, female or otherwise. I'm gonna put Hostile Man as successfully retaining, but barely.
~ Chris Davison and Michael Draven square off. Draven will be quite happy with this match, as it IS no DQ. But Davison's no slouch, and probably would've won the World Title if it weren't for the interference of Draven/Boden/Storm. Look for Davison to be out for revenge, and look for Draven to be out for blood.
~ In the Main Event, Jon Storm and Sean Boden rekindle an old rivalry. I don't know what happened... these guys were the best of friends at one point, and now they're at each others throats. There's nothing like stubbornness and bitterness to make for the feud of a lifetime. Both men are jealous of the other, and they're out to make examples of each other. This one will tear the house down, and I don't expect it to be the last time they meet in an HWF ring.
Of course, no HWF card would be complete without a few surprises, so tune in and find out what's gonna happen. I know I will.
Camel out.
