Clear Creek
Clear Creek chert lies directly above Grassy Knob chert in some locations.  In other places Backbone limestone lies between them (Willman 1975). This chert is yellow to white in color (Thompson 1998).  Chert is dominate in this formation with limestone increasing in the upper portion.  Fossils are found in Clear Creek ranging in number.  Some chert beds are predominately fossiliferous (Willman 1975).
The blocky structure and numerous fractures of some Clear Creek chert makes it less desirable for knapping.  The orange staining on this piece of chert is caused my iron oxide.
