Crescent Hills chert is found in Misouri between the Big and Meramec Rivers (Ives 1984). Because of the overlap in color and texture, Crescent Hills is generally grouped with Burlington chert. Crescent Hills is a very high quality Burlington chert (Morrow 1988) that is found in irregular nodules. The color of Crescent Hills can be variations of whites, greys, tans, yellows, pinks, browns, purples, reds, blues, and greens. Fossils are scarce or nonexistent in Crescent Hills chert, unlike most Burlington outcrops in Illinois (Ives 1984). |
